Extra legroom seats on the 777 fleet in Club

A while ago I posted a thread outlining the extra legroom seats on the 747 fleet in Club. A recent trip on the 3-class 777 has allowed me to pull some thoughts together on the 777 fleet in total. There are four versions of Boeing’s nasty big twin:

4 class (all engine and IFE configs are the same)

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Bri...ng_777-200.php

There are two ‘Old’ 3-class config is here and can be found from LHR and LGW

http://seatexpert.com/seatmap_images..._class_NCW.gif (this is the long haul version)

The ‘new 3- class config is here and is confined to a handful of new 777’s operating from LHR plus 6 conversions

http://www.philstraveldiary.co.uk/BA...new-layout.htm (thanks to PhilH for hosting the image)

All feedback welcome!

Comments on the 4-class configuration

10BJ – barely 1 inch extra

10DG – nothing due to a shield ensuring your feet don’t get whacked by a cart

15EF – 1.5 inches extra

15AK – 2 inches extra, but may have a window missing

Comments on the 4 class 777-300

10BJ - 1 extra inch

10DG - nothing due to the shield

16EF - 1.5 inches extra

16AK - 2 inches extra

Comments on the 3-class ‘Old’ configs

1DG – nothing due to the shield

2BJ – 1 inch only

3EF - 2.5 inches. Bassinet seats

3K – on some planes there is no 4JK (crew rest area instead) so the comments relevant to 4K apply here instead

4AK - 2.5 inches. Nice bulkhead seats and far enough from lavs and galley to avoid noise and light pollution.

10BJ – 1 inch only

10DG – shield as per 1DG

11EF – 1 inches.

11AK – 1.5 inches. Nice bulkhead seats except for the WT+ bassinet just a few inches away

Comments on the 3-class ‘New’ config

2BJ - 2-3 extra inches however your foot could overhang into the aisle as both the seat and aisle curve due to the fuselage

2DG - shielded

5AK an extra 2 inches (but also a missing window by your head)

5EF an extra 2 inches

10BJDG - all shielded

11AK an extra 2 inches

11EF an extra 2 inches

If you're in NCW (or NGCW if you're lucky...) then I've always liked 15A/K. No one to climb over when you're trying to get out and a bit more room. Windows aren't the best due as a number of them just aren't there but its not the end of the world.

Having done a couple of trips a bit further forward on a 777 I've found that you can start to feel a bit of vibration through the seat from the engines.

I have a great mental picture of Swanhunter wandering through the cabin with a tape measure...excuse me, sorry, just need to measure up, could you possibly lift your glass of champagne a little higher, thank you...

You didn't happen to notice if 4JK was reserved for a Crew Rest on your recent Tobago flight did you?

Its one of the few remaining window pairs in the front cabin for my trip and I was hoping to snaffle it at T-24. I assume if its available for selection, its available and I wont be seat shifted somewhere else post selection, when they decide the crew need it.

I have those seats reserved on an LGW-ANU-GND in March so assume not crew rest.

Thanks, I'll be F5ing away on T-24, hoping no connector has grabbed them

Only 2 flight crew so no seats blocked in the cabin on that route.
Enjoy your flights...I'm crewing some in March, maybe see you...

It is a nasty aircraft, eh? Although Karl Sabbagh's '21St-Century Jet: The Making and Marketing of the Boeing 777' (and the TV series it accompanied, which can be found on Google Video) is highly recommended to anyone interested in civil aviation.

I seem cursed to fly this aircraft on most of my long hauls.

Re: Tobago - if it's an ex-LGW flight, seats 4J/K are available since crew rest is in curtained off areas of the galley.

Re: 15A/K - personally find these to be claustrophobic seats when the divider is up, I'll willingly sacrifice the step-free exit in return for a less confined aisle seat. YMMV.

Thanks Swanhunter. As a 6'2"'er I'd take the extra space over missing windows and even possible WT+ bassinet. So my pick would be 15AK - and I'll be trying my level best at T-24's to secure one of the seats to BGI in a few weeks time (this will include speaking to EC, sitting on-line etc...).

That's the one I will be flying in from MCO, but not to LHR. It will land in LGW!

But yes, the seatmap on the EC page shows this same configuration with 48 CW seats. I won't have any feedback until the 10th of March, but if there's something you would like to know, I can take a look to see if I can gather the info for you (just PM me as a reminder so I can place it in my calendar).

*edit* sorry, my bad. It's got 40 CW seats, not 48. A configuration of 3 rows in the first section, and another 2 in the second section of CW.
