Tesco and Avios

Tesco, the major UK supermarket chain, allows you to convert Tesco Clubcard (CC) points to Avios. The standard earning rate is 1 CC point per £1 spent in store. They convert to Avios in the ratio of 1 CC point to 2.4 Avios or 2.5 Virgin miles.

Every quarter, your points are converted to coupons and mailed to you - they can then be converted via the CC website to Avios or Virgin miles. Typically, it takes 1-2 working days for a conversion to BA Avios to complete.

The key to rapidly earning large amounts of Avios is the regular bonus point offers where large amounts of points can be earned. The latest are listed below and discussed within this thread.

The last period for collecting Clubcard points finished on 22 October 2015.

The last day for collecting points in the current quarter is 28 January 2016.

TopCashback (TCB)

TCB is a cashback generating site that pays your for shopping at a wide range of online retailers via their links. Uniquely amongst such sites, TCB allows up to £50 of cashback per year to be withdrawn to your Tesco Clubcard account which could then be transferred to 12,000 Avios.

Additional cashback above £50 can be transferred directly to your Avios account at rate of 1p = 1.05 Avios although this is not a great deal.

Its not as its for Tesco to Avios thread but when there is not much CC point earning ops around at present,3v at Tesco is the best thing available to discuss to get Avios at T.

jonboy73 is only kidding. He was in to 3V before most of us realised what a good thing it was.

My Avios popped in to my BAEC account today. Shame they're now worth less.

Following today's Avios devaluation (or rather the upcoming one at the end of April), it makes it even harder to justify using Clubcard points for Avios, restaurant vouchers are so much more valuable

Maybe there'll be a conversion bonus to offset the changes? (One can but hope...)

Like many others, I'm on the grandfather rate (800) so I'm quite happy - at the moment. Will certainly try and get some flights organised before 28 April. I also have a few 241's to burn so the avios conversion was necessary.

I cashed out my stash of CC vouchers a couple of weeks ago for Goldsmiths and a meal out. Can't say that I regret making that choice.

Just got this info via an email from Virgin Atlantic:

" convert your Clubcard points between 30 January and 31 March 2015 and we'll give you 30% more miles*. Even better, if you really want to see your miles balance skyrocket, sign up for Auto Opt In to transfer your points automatically and we'll give you another 1,000 bonus miles** on top. "

So....do I convert my Clubcard points to Virgin miles or do I hang around waiting for a British Airways Avios offer???

Well I've just converted £300-worth, two years of accumulated spend, so I'd expect a bonus tomorrow.

They're certainly rocketing with an extra 1000 miles

I've converted mine. Can't see there being any bonuses ever.

Fingers crossed! Unless you need them, you might as well hang on until the end of March to see if anything comes across and, if there is still nothing and you use Virgin miles then its as good a time as any I guess.

I think they ran something similar this time last year which I took advantage of to go Tesco - Virgin - IHG to top up my account for a redemption in Washington. There has been nothing from BA in that time.

For anyone waiting on a BA bonus, it seems you'll be waiting a while longer!

This has appeared on the BA site today:

"Exchange a minimum £5 in Tesco Clubcard vouchers for Avios and you’ll receive entry into a prize draw to win an evening of fine dining at the Chef’s Table, in Gordon Ramsay's Savoy Grill. Exchange between 30 January to 28 February, for a chance for you and three friends to experience a 360 hands on experience with Head Chef, Andy Cook."

Yet another of their famous competitions...
