2015 POUG rate tracker
Please add your own successful results to the follow list including the month/year when the POUG was offered to you.
POUGs are offered via BA.com and the App Manage My Booking via a distinctive banner. You cannot get a POUG by telephoning, however the service centres can complete a POUG which falls over mid transaction. They are offered on cash and Avios redemptions but typically not on complex routings, BA Holidays or travel agency bookings until OLCI stage. POUGs on Avios redemptions won't get you additional TPs/Avios, but they will on revenue tickets.

I've never seen it before and as a data point - it's for a flight in December....

MMB still saying 0 TPs etc but strange it was offered on a redemption - I've probably just blown that £80....
To be honest I am not sure if anyone has tested the waters recently. So the advice here is "it won't work" but if you're willing to take the risk, maybe the received wisdom is not correct.

They now can appear at OLCI, there have been other posts about this, inevitably asking about the TP position.... In this case I wonder if the ticket was reissued into a non redemption bucket, in which case anything is possible!

These are definitely POUGable. DUB is a favourite for this, but no guarantees. There's a bit of a link: they only offer the Awayday fares if the aircraft isn't too full, and therefore they may be wanting to squeeze a few bob out of the empty CE cabin.

However! POUGs are priced so that there isn't much benefit on the Saturday night rule pricing. Clearly it saves you from a hotel or whatever in your target location, but if you are looking for TPs, to avoid the lack of guarantees I would just go to the cheapest CE Saturday nighter. Or do a nested return perhaps (two returns, A and B, A-B-B-A style with return legs on Saturday afternoon being the name of the game).

Cheapest place for that at the moment is Bordeaux, Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bilbao and several Italian cities all currently below £220 for 80 TPs. Whereas a POUG on any leg could perhaps be £80 or £100 each....

Another data point. My redemptions ex-LCY (to ZRH and DUB) have both shown POUGs available since 48 hours after booking.

Thanks corporate-wage-slave and paul4040.

The post was in response to a friend's question, who needs the a couple of CE return TPs to renew his GGL but wants to avoid the night stops and hotel costs.

We went to Brussels for lunch last year, which was fun, but I cannot remember whether the upgrade after c48 hours was much cheaper than the usual I class fare for Saturday night stays. We did save the hotel cost and only used one day rather than two.

I think my preference is to stick to Saturday night stays, which are more relaxing and I know the price for which I am getting the guaranteed CE fare.

I think I will suggest he goes to Helsinki for the 160 TPs he needs and can enjoy the long days in this fun location!

Lisbon upgrade offer

It's currently showing for me @ £145! Each way!

There's no chance of me upgrading at that price!

POUG Terms and Conditions

Just for the record, here are the terms and conditions for POUGs:

This is a limited special offer and so we can only guarantee this price if you book now. If you come back later the price may have changed or the offer may have sold out.

Promotional upgrades are one-way only and are offered on a first come first served basis to those customers eligible for this promotion who have booked a qualifying flight, and subject to availability. Therefore in certain periods there may be no upgrades available.

A qualifying flight is a one-way flight flown on services operated by British Airways, BA City Flyer and Open Skies (but not on flights operated wholly or partly by its franchisees/codeshare partners/oneworld® alliance members).

British Airways accepts no liability for any inability to take up the offer if upgrade seats in the Club Europe/World Traveller Plus/ Club World/First cabin are not available on a given date even though seats may still be available at a different fare or booking class in the same cabin.

Promotional upgrades are available online or on the day of departure at the airport for selected flights and selected ticket types subject to availability.

Promotional upgrades are intended for use on occasional basis, and therefore are not offered to customers every time they travel. A variety of factors, including seat availability, ticket type and prior take up of promotional upgrades will affect whether a customer is selected to participate in the promotional upgrade offer.

Checked baggage allowance and lounge access are in accordance with the upgraded cabin entitlement and apply to the upgraded part of your journey only.

If you reserved a seat in your original cabin, you will be asked to pay any difference in price to reserve a seat in the upgraded cabin. If you no longer wish to pay for a reserved seat in the upgraded cabin, you can apply for a refund.

Infants may be charged 10% of the upgrade fare.

The offer is not available to passengers travelling as unaccompanied minors (child aged up to 18 years old).

Promotional upgrades are non-refundable and the original fare conditions apply to any upgraded ticket.

Customers who change their travel arrangements after the date of booking will not be eligible for this promotion unless their revised travel arrangements also constitute a qualifying flight. In the event that the flight is not a qualifying flight, customers will travel in the cabin they originally booked and if they wish to travel in the upgraded class they will be required to pay the normal upgrade fare applicable in accordance with British Airways standard fare rules. The amount paid for the upgrade can be used as credit towards the new upgrade fare.

In case of a flight cancellation, if the customer is re-booked on another carrier, the upgrade fee will be refunded and the customer will be booked in the cabin class as purchased on their original ticket. If the customer is re-booked on British Airways, we will attempt to accommodate the passenger in the same cabin which the customer has upgraded to, provided it is available.

If the same cabin is not available the upgrade fee will be refunded and the customer will be seated in the cabin class as purchased on their original ticket. If a refund of the original purchased ticket is applicable, the refund will be in accordance with the fare rules applicable at time of original purchase.

If the aircraft has to be substituted for one which does not have a higher class cabin, customers will be seated in the cabin class as purchased on their original ticket and the upgrade fee will be refunded.

This promotion is only available on routes offering a higher class cabin.

Promotional upgrades are non-transferable and no cash or credit alternatives will be offered.

Members of the British Airways Executive Club are eligible for Avios and Tier Points associated with the higher cabin. In the event that these are not credited at the time of the flight, they can be claimed retrospectively within six months through ba.com once travel has been completed. Customers who upgrade from a redemption ticket are not eligible for Avios or Tier points in either the original or upgraded cabin.

All passengers are carried by British Airways in accordance with its General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage and its Notice and Conditions of Contract as stated on each ticket or itinerary as provided.

British Airways reserves the right to cancel or amend any or all of the terms and conditions of this promotion, without notice, in the event of a major catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, earthquake or any actual anticipated or alleged breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other similar event outside the reasonable control of British Airways.

British Airways is in no way liable for the reproduction or indirect access via any third party website or homepage access which reproduction misstates or omits any of the information or terms and conditions of this promotion.

This promotion is governed by English law and is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts. Promotional materials form part of these terms and conditions.

The promoter is: British Airways Plc, Waterside, PO Box 365, Harmondsworth UB7 OGB, Registered No. 1777777 England.

Are open jaw tickets offered an upgrade at OLCI or do you have to AUP? I'm not able to upgrade in MMB.

Depends a bit on the the details, but typically I would not expect POUGs on open jaws. Basically the easiest to POUG are one sector point to point single trips. Multi city, multi legs are at the other extreme and so won't get a POUG typically. So while there are perhaps exceptions out there, I would assume AUP would be the only option (or a full re-price).

LHR-VIE offered now in MMB for £135. No thanks! Last year I got one of these for £69 and considered it a bad value....
