2015 POUG rate tracker
Please add your own successful results to the follow list including the month/year when the POUG was offered to you.
POUGs are offered via BA.com and the App Manage My Booking via a distinctive banner. You cannot get a POUG by telephoning, however the service centres can complete a POUG which falls over mid transaction. They are offered on cash and Avios redemptions but typically not on complex routings, BA Holidays or travel agency bookings until OLCI stage. POUGs on Avios redemptions won't get you additional TPs/Avios, but they will on revenue tickets.

Short haul routes from LON to/from Europe

I couldn't say for sure for all non-revenue tickets. But for sure straightforward BA redemptions (the kind that are avios for ticket, and no TP/Avios granted for travel) do not have the paid upgrade option. Can't say for other non BAEC award tickets though. Using avios purely for a discount on a ticket though, where the ticket does still grant TP/avois usually are upgradable as normal and are eligible for POUG.

On this subject, I did once fly on a redemption Y ticket. Of course as I say there was never an option to upgrade available on the ticket. However I did get an OP-UP to CE at the gate on the outbound. Which was a pleasant surprise.

So, I would say the standard paid for routes are not possible, but the out of your control OP/UP can still happen.

I don't think that's true. POUGs have been reported for those. Still no TPs/Avios for the upgrade though.

Correct. Avios redemptions do attract POUGs, but rarely so, and generally (only?) at T-24 hours/OLCI. Revenue tickets get them too, but they need to be on 125 (BA) tickets without complications such as other airlines. And if you have an EDI / domestic leg I think that also will reduce your chances to close to zero.

So best enquire about an AUP (airport upgrade) at the airport (or rebook in the desired travel class).

My T-24/OLCI POUG rate is 0%. Never had one on any flight full, partially full or practically empty to anywhere.

Ah OK. I've never seen it, and specifically on routes that tended to always have a POUG up. So, I assumed it was just always the case for that kind of ticket.

POUG converts HBO fare to with-bags fare

Just had an odd situation arise from a POUG offer on an LHR-ATH return. I originally booked a HBO fare. The fare difference to CE for the return at the time of booking was a shade over £400. 3 or 4 days after booking (I didn't check on day 3) a POUG offer of £179 for each leg was offered. This is significantly more than others have reported for this route, and not much less than a fare-difference upgrade. But I took it for the return journey.

The confirmation screens indicated that the new fare conditions included bags for both the outbound and return. I assumed this was a mistake (though should I have wanted to exploit that mistake, I think I would have taken a screen grab.) MMB now shows the same thing. I don't want or need to take hold luggage and I don't think the option was there not to take this, as if a HBO-only upgrade had been offered for less I would have taken that. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? c-w-s has reported POUGs being available for HBO fares, but I presumed that they remained HBO after the upgrade.

I've updated the wiki, incidentally.

You cannot have a HBO Club Europe fare; that's why you've seen the inflated price, which essentially includes baggage allowance.

Yes, that's always been the case, if you POUG a HBO fare you end up with a checked luggage allowance.
