Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

30 TPs needed for silver!

I need to get 30 tier points by early September to get back to Silver. Any tips on the cheapest way to do this? I can travel the weekends of 22/23 Aug or 5/6 Sep - a quick turnaround trip or overnight stay is fine, whatever I have to do to get the points!

Thank you!

My first post after reading this forum for years. You guys are fascinating and I'm getting more and more into all of this because of you - thanks for an abundance of information.

I'm currently a Gold member at BA and I travel 3 - 4 times from Berlin to NY every year. I can see from all the posts here that I would be able to make many more TP/Avios than I currently do.

I'm a freelancer and my travel dates are extremely flexible. I can easily set aside time to go to HNL while in the US - I just can't figure out how to do all this routing stuff.

It is mentioned in several places than I could be getting between 1300 - 1500 for a TP run TXL to HNL and back. Can someone help me with how to do this please? How do you book those complicating routings? How do you even look them up?

I have to go to NY late November this year. I don't mind going from say CPH or OSL instead of TXL. My TP collecting year ends on 8th of Dec. and I need 680 to retain gold. That definitely should be possible right?

I need a full working week in NY every time - does the length of a stop over limit the options of a TP run?

There's literally like a multiple-page thread on this in the premium fare deals thread that's been going on for quite a long time :P

@smiley90: I assume that post was for me?

When I enter the last route into AAs multi city search I get an error message: "We are unable to find recommendations for your search. Please change your search criteria and resubmit the search."

I am using the same dates and just leaving PTY out. Can you also link to the other thread - I'm not sure which one you are referring to.

DUB can go "bits up" fairly easily. I had a turnround not on the same plane but on the next flight to LHR but still managed to be delayed enough to miss the bag check deadline! I begged and it was ok but you often spend twice as long on the plane as the actual flight

Depends on your usual travel patterns. I presume you bill the client for your TXL - NY flight?

If they are happy to pay that route, then I would suggest you just buy your US TP run yourself, for 680 you shouldn't need to even go all the way to HNL.

PHL-PHX-PHL=420
Currently pricing up around £650 for close to those dates.

Throw some NYC-PHL in if you need it and with your NYC-TXL legs you should be fine.

A bit more info would be great.

I actually pay myself. I can fly any day of the week - I just push work to a Saturday or Sunday.

I can get a CPH-NYC in CE/CW for around 1200€ leaving Nov. 23. TXL-NYC is around 1800€. Since my family lives in CPH it's usually just a plus with a short stop over.

Should I book all of this as one ticket or is it better/more flexible with the NA route separately? How do you find the cheap AA first class flights? (like in the example with PTY which I thought was related to me)

If you would fly Oslo which has had some great fares, you can get

OSL-LHR-EWR 25/11/15
EWR-PHX 30/11/15
PHX-EWR-LHR-OSL* 1/12/30

Loads of points for 2,100 EUR and gives you 25-30 in NYC for work.

Dear all - I'm aiming for 3500TP and need 135TP by 8th Sept (or 22nd with the 2 week extension).

So far I've found that JER-LGW-AMS looks best at £273, but the outbound positioning flight is a pain. One-ways and even returns look expensive for the date I'm looking at (departing on the 12th Sep), and the only Avios option departs Gatwick at an unholy 0725! I don't really want to go the night before as that adds hotel costs etc. bumping up the £/TP

Can anyone offer any alternative routes/suggestions for this trip? Based in LON and work in AMS... might look at AMS-LGW-JER

TIA

I have managed a search for 31st Aug which gave BGO-LHR-DFW- IAH-PHL-CLT-JFK-LHR-BGO which I think gives 600 points. This was returning the 6th Sept. This had an overnight stop in PHL. May need a call to BA !

BGO-ARN-HEL-AGP-HEL-ARN-BGO can be done for the same price but BGO-ARN-HEL is the same flight number - can that be overcome somehow to give another 2x40tp?

Also, finnair.com won't let be book immediate turnaround for the AGP midnight departure! Where to book this back-to-back?

Sounds gruelling but I'm 345tp short of Gold so...

I don't think it's possible to overcome the flight number issue on the BGO-ARN-HEL, given it's the same flight number.

OTAs will sell you the back to back in Malaga, try Cheaptickets or Orbitz.
