Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under 300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under 500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for 520

Hi all - I have bronze right now, and need 100 TP by April 8 or I will be a lowly blue again. Any suggestions from ORD to get 100 TP quickly? TIA!

A short sector in First on AA or US will net 60TPs each. So either a return to/from ORD, or you might be able to find a ticket to somewhere not too far away that allows two sectors - an example in California is a single from SFO to LAS, but going via LAX to double the number of sectors, at the same price.

quick question--is there an issue if i book SFO-PHX-JFK via aa.com and the flight number is the same the entire way--will i still get the correct TPs for both the SFO-PHX and PHX-JFK sectors?

No you will get TPs for SFO-JFK

I think that was the outcome of the discussion we had before? Perhaps someone with a better memory can confirm or deny that?

Yes, I think the outcome was if you book SFO-PHX-JFK and it is one flight number you get one set of TPs, so 210 and not 210+60.

Any suggestions for FRA-SLC in mid-May (7-day trip +/- a day or two, mid-week travel)? A few weeks ago I could have booked FRA-LHR-LAX-SLC-PHX-LAX-JFK-FRA in business/first for 2,400 EUR (around 640TPs), but now the price has jumped to ca 3,700 EUR. Booked a similar itinerary 30 days out last year for ca 2,200 EUR. Should I expect the price to fall or rather increase? Looking at a calendar of fares on either ITA matrix or aa.com currently shows virtually a static price for this trip, were it to happen anytime from mid-April to mid-August.

Looking to get from London to Toronto in June and September (for two weddings). Is there any good tier point runs that work out cheaper than direct? I'm trying to maintain a silver but hopefully I can push for Gold this year. For some reason I can only make a TP run that gets ~120 TP's.

Also I have a Canadian (my home) and Holland (family home) address, would it make sense to switch my account address to one of those other locations for a lower gold TP threshold? And would I lose the points ive accumulated this year the process? I currently work based out of the UK so many of my flights originate from LHR if that matters.

The value I see in getting Gold now is that I would automatically get Silver the year after regardless of TP and BA qualifying flights I can get at that time. Then during that Silver year I could think about doing another TP run to get back to gold and have another two-years Gold-Silver.

for the curious, the TP run I'm planning is
LAX/MIA/SEA/PHL/LAX with AA/US, all in F
or
LAX/MIA/LAS/PHL/LAX, same airlianes and class.

840 TPs for about $2000 over a weekend.

thoughts?

If coming out of LAX, why not try LAX-IAH (with two stops, many options to choose from, PHX, DFW, etc) and return the next day via the same method. Just looked for a weekend in September. Fly out Sat 19th, back sun 20th. $420 each direct, so $840 total. 720 teir points... $1.15 per TP... Which is about 0.76 per TP, which looking at the Wiki is about as good as it gets at the moment...

BTW, flights were found on Kayak and then clicked through to AA.com to get the three leg one-way journeys to show. AA.com just shows direct and 1 stop options when I do standard search on there.

Also I have a Canadian (my home) and Holland (family home) address, would it make sense to switch my account address to one of those other locations for a lower gold TP threshold? And would I lose the points ive accumulated this year the process? I currently work based out of the UK so many of my flights originate from LHR if that matters.
Welcome to FT. I am sure an ambassador will be along to offer an official welcome later. Not looked for any prices, so cannot say what these might be.

What is the route you have been looking at, and in what class?

At the moment the best fares are probably from Dublin, although AMS/CPH can often be worth checking out. A lot of TP runs will be in business and go via London and US, with BA1-4 being popular as this earns 210TP each way (if booked by 28/4 regardless of travel date).

As for location of your BAEC account, I don't think your location matters any more with regard to TP required for each status level. This did used to be the case. However, levels are 300, 600, and 1500 for everybody. No doubt I will be corrected if wrong.

If you post more information about your plans, e.g. class of travel, dates etc then you may get more specific information for your requirements.

If flying LAX-PHX-DFW-IAH, all of those would be 60TP sectors in First so 180TP each way, 360TP for the whole return trip, not 720TP

Doh! Total brain fart on the calculations there :-( sorry. I had it doubled, as was thinking about doing it twice for myself.
