LHR T5 Going back from T5B to T5A departure lounge
 

Hi,
I have a flight leaving from T5A but have to go to T5B beforehand. How can I get back to T5A? I guess the people mover is just a one-way system and there is no way to walk back?

Go to the lifts opposite Boots in T5B, near gate B36, go to -4 preferably (if it will allow you to), or -2 and then take the stairs down.

The gates for departing aircraft are not known in advance, other than that all domestic departures must leave from A and A380s normally leave from C. That's about it in terms of firm predictability.

Why do you have to go to T5B before? There's nothing there (other than the Apostrophe cafe) that isn't in T5A.

As described above, you can walk back along the departures walkway, a level below the track transit. The travelators will be going in the A-B direction, so there will be no automated assistance! It will take around 10 minutes.

Rule#1 don't get on the train to try and get back

Best to explain why:
For departures the train runs A-B-C and then when heading back C-B-A is the arrivals track. If you try and get the train back from B the only ones you see will be the ones going to C, the ones to A are not accessible from departures.

If you try to be clever and get on the one to C and wait for it to go back you'll find yourself in the arrivals section with no access to departures without going through security again (and maybe you'll need to get a new boarding pass after explaining how you ended up there).

I advise walking between the satellites anyway if you're physically able to and leave the train to those who are less able to walk, this allows a more predictable time as the wait for the train can be variable and in some situations may be too full to get on the first one.

So best advice is to follow the pictorial guide and walk from A to B (as mentioned in the first reply), that means you're then familiar with the tunnels and can be confident of finding your way back.

As Genius1 says though, there doesn't seem to be any reason for you to go to T5B (unless you want to visit the lounge there) and the only flights that definitely leave from T5A are the domestic flights. No other flights have a fixed gate (although you can be reasonably sure, but not 100%, that A380 flights will depart from C).

I assume they are aware that the GC lounge is less crowded at 5B than 5A.
We always head straight there now, Elemis treatments are always available for myself (shave) and OH (massage)
and of course it's quite a short walk from there to Starbucks;):D
