The British Airways Nostalgia Thread - Your Photos
Spurred on by the recent T1 thread I thought that it might be a good idea to have a thread where people can post old photos of their BA experiences and reminisce about the 'good old days'.
I've been flying BA since I was a child. I remember several trips to Florida and also a school trip to Canada which I know I have photos of (I'll need to dig those out). For now, here are a few from my first ever CW flight in 2005. It was a surprise Op-up and my only one ever on BA. I was booked into WTP and I was absolutely thrilled about the prospect given that I had only ever previously flown in Y. This was also my first work trip to the US. I was headed to Chicago and then on to Wisconsin for a couple of weeks for graduate training. I remember checking in at T4 and asking for a window seat in the WTP cabin. The agent said no sorry, but he'd upgraded me to business instead! I knew to shut my mouth at this point. Unfortunately, in 2005, lounge access wasn't available for passengers who had been upgraded but I did chance my arm with the lounge dragon who was absolutely lovely and explained how sorry she was that she couldn't let me in. On board I remember being astonished with the amount of space around my seat. I mean, for heaven's sake, I couldn't even reach the magazine pocket! This was on a 747 on the lower deck, rear cabin. I was in an aisle seat. I remember putting the seat flat just to see what it was like to lay down on a plane, very cool and very weird at the same time. The crew were great. I think that there were a lot of op-ups in the cabin to be honest but we didn't seem to be treated any differently. I don't remember much about the food, only that it was served on China with proper cutlery which again, amazed me. I think that I smiled for the entire 9 hour flight. What an experience! Here are a few photos: My seat, row 18B rings a bell: http://matt.enzy.org/gallery/galleri...5/DSC07514.jpg The cabin during the drinks service: http://matt.enzy.org/gallery/galleri...5/DSC07518.jpg A flat bed!! http://matt.enzy.org/gallery/galleri...5/DSC07519.jpg The RR engines taking us to ORD: http://matt.enzy.org/gallery/galleri...5/DSC07521.jpg I don't have any photos of the food but here is the menu: http://matt.enzy.org/TR/1STCW/CW004.jpg And the wine: http://matt.enzy.org/TR/1STCW/CW006.jpg So who has other photos that they can share? I'd love to see some of the mid-nineties era. |

When I was looking through this I hadn't initially realised it was two posts so I go to the third photo down in the second post and thought matthandy when he was younger looked a lot like Sixth Freedom!
Thanks for posting. I have no photos to contribute myself since I really did very little flying until 3/4 years ago (how that has changed!). First ever longhaul was only in August 2010 on AA MAN-JFK in Y. I don't hink I enjoyed it very much, and I didn't sleep coming back. I didn't even collect avios and I had no idea what BAEC was at the time. |
Novice here how do you attach photos?

This one is shamelessly taken from JetPhotos, but I have a nearly identical one, taken from Chelsea Bridge, of G-BOAD, back in 2001.

Also a great idea for a thread. I shall be watching this carefully. I'd love to see some photos from the 70's and 80's. |
Quite a few good piccies in the BA Heritage section of the BA Museum website:
http://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/...ge/photographs You can also order posters for between £15-£35: http://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/...ritage/posters |
Zone R was great in T1 - my first long haul CW flights to SFO in 2005/6 were out of T1!

If I dig around I might be able to find some old photos of Gatwick as well. |

One of those beautiful Autumn evenings - I flew to CDG and there wasn't a cloud in the sky from departure to landing. EDIT: Checking my records... This was 24 September 2003 exactly a month before the Concorde retirement. As I awaited my G-BPEE to CDG, it's G-BOAE taxiing to 09R as BA001. |
