Grrr - seat selection

So I've just booked on tonight's BA15, no seats left in Y or J, fortunately 1 for sale in W. Nothing left on BA11 at all.

Unfortunately the only choice of seat left is a middle seat. At least this time I haven't been booted out of the exit row so some BA staffer could put their parents in.

Fortunately I've heard that GGLs could boot others out of seats by holding shift-ctrl-f6 or something while selecting a seat, so at least there's a silver lining.

Why do people without status get to choose seats on planes so early?

You are complaining that non-status pax get to choose seats at T-24?

LTN Phobia Aug 12, 2014 3:40 am

The system probably auto-allocates seats at T-24 when the flight is full or nearly full?

It's not BA's or other passengers' problem that you (or your workplace) did not book until decent seats were taken.

It's cmd-f4 on a Mac. Shift-ctrl-f6 kicks a nanny out of CW and into WT+, so be careful..

Someone has to sit in the middle seats. Being that person is one of the hazards that comes with booking at the last minute. I can't see how it can be avoided unless seating plans stay fluid until boarding so that late-booking GCH preferences can be prioritised.

BTW, this thing I keep reading about shft+ctrl+6, it's just an FT in-joke isn't it?

I suspect the flight is oversold, it's now changed to F0 I1 W0 Y0

Thanks for the Nanny tip, should help with an op-up :D

T-24 is hardly "early".

Certainly is, I wouldn't book a train ticket at T-24 and not call it early.

I'm in a similar situation - just booked an EDI-LHR-SFO for this Saturday and back the following Thursday, in WT+.

I think I've always had front row bulkhead seats in WT+, but this is the closest to departure I've ever booked (full priced W, probably 50% more than an I class business seat would have been) - luckily there were still some aisle seats available on both TATL legs, so I won't have to endure a middle seat.

Hopefully I won't have a someone with weak bladder sitting beside me :D

Are the key-presses the same for Gold as they are for GGL? There's a Doctor in 28B (the throne), but she's only a Silver, and I want her seat.

Err, yes, entirely an in-joke, certainly doesn't happen, no sir, no way. People certainly don't notice their seats been shifted for some strange reason. Nothing to see here. I shouldn't have said anything. I'm certainly not now sat in a nice exit row in WTP, and certainly not expecting some rather annoyed stares.
