As long as FT stays, the rest is fairly insignificant.
Before I was an FT member, I virtually always travelled in discomfort at the back of the plane, using my own money. Since FT, I usually travel at the front, often using AVIOS, but even when paying to sit at the back, I usually get a decent decent seat.
I recently flew CE LGW to SZG, which was really busy and although it has the old style seating, we felt relaxed throughout, which makes a big difference. No more stress about where we're going to sit, or long lines to check-in, just a smooth operation, at least until the baggage hall in LGW North!

When they can charge J prices for a Y product, why would they want to stop laughing all the way to the bank?

Whenever CE is raised the subtext is an implied comparison with regional business class in Asia. CE is poor stuff compared with Cathay's regional business but I still use it because it's marginally better than Euro Traveller and because in the current market there's nothing better.

Tastes vary of course, but I find an exit row in economy on par with CE on BA.

A minute loss of space which by all accounts won't be noticeable anyway will not deter those who already fly CE.
