Flying in WT, to YYZ recently in seat 52B (both there and back 52C was empty, despite the flight being fairly full, GCW privilege?)
the CSD came down to say hello twice, first time I was asleep - then brought a bottle of water back. They also advised me that people were asking for aisle seats, so they recommended I move into 52C, if I didn't want a companion, which I thought was a nice touch

then on a connecting flight in the UK got a goodbye Mr **** upon leaving the aircraft from the high heed yun, who I didn't even have any interaction with

Personal greeting last night on the BA798 to HEL with an offer of any drink from CE. Accepted some Champagne with a second promptly served when the first glass became empty. Let’s see what happens later on this week when flying back to LHR and then onwards to BCN.

Did get a very nice chat with the CSD on LHR-JFK in F yesterday. He was genuine and interested and was around to say hello within 5 minutes of the crew being able to move around. He also popped back at the end of the flight to ask how everything was. Was almost as good as a normal shorthaul flight on AY

Got a lovely welcome in BA F and use of my name throughout.

No official welcome on my INV LHR sector but was addressed by name during all interactions, which I liked.

I've had a few personal welcomes recently - in Y as the trolley rolled through inbound from ZAG last month, more noticeable outbound to JER on Dec 30th. No offerings of anything: but then again this was short haul.

Perhaps it's because there are so many more BAEC gold passengers on BA than there are AY platinum on AY or CX diamond on CX
With AY they also appear to take your meal order first to ensure your choice is available.

Not specifically a Gold benefit, the higher your status the more likely you are to have the seat next to you empty in the event the flight is not full. More info in the theoretical seating thread.

BA163 to TLV yesterday - my first flight since achieving Gold, and I was completely ignored... admittedly I was in the back, but the flight was less than half full. I don't know if Theoretical Seating is to be thanked, but the two seats next to me (in D) and all three in front of me were empty, at least to begin with, which is much more important to me than any greeting or drinks. Returning in WT+ on Friday so I'll see how that works out.

I think it clearly depends on the crew. I haven't received a friendly hello, welcome back on a number of occasions - even when first becoming Gold. Sometimes the crew are just too busy - or maybe not in the mood. More often than not I have found the crew are aware I'm Gold and make accommodations when necessary. The most recent I can remember was on a flight in WT+ from JFK last Sep when two of us Goldies had boarded (separately) the 747 first in Group 1. The other Gold member (who would be sitting next to me) was already in her seat and kicking off to the crew about all sorts of stupid stuff. The CSM discreetly led me up the cabin (I hadn't sat down yet) - explaining we were the only Gold members in that cabin and I should sit in a bulkhead seat which was the only other seat free. She got a spare seat free next to her (maybe that was the goal!) but I felt they handled it well!

This morning in Y after the breakfast service had finished the CSM came back to welcome me on the flight, ask how I was and offer me a glass of champagne. At the end of the flight as we disembarked he used my name when he said goodbye and at the exit.

What??? I read the majority of this thread in disbelief.

I have been gold for 3 years. Never been greeted once and neither have I ever had a seat free next to me.

Oh well. I must have one of those faces.

However i once stood behind a gentleman on the queue to get in a Cathay Flight in HK and he had been personally escorted to the gate by the head guy from the lounge he had a letter from the chairman of Cathay thanking this gentleman for his loyalty.

Dont know now how he had been flying on Cathay for ... think it might have been 20 years or something. But he had achieved Platinum within 1 month when he first started or something.

Made me realise pretty much everyone has Gold nowadays.

On any given day about 6,000 Gold members pass through T5. Hardly an exclusive club!

A welcome and a half returning on a long-haul, red eye flight back to the UK this week. Sitting in W before take-off, the cabin crew member working my aisle popped by to introduce himself and offered me anything I fancied from up front, noting that the first class pyjamas look particularly good when worn whilst holding a glass of bubbly. Foregoing the pjs but giving the thumbs up to the champagne, he bound up the plane straight after the seat belt sign went off and returned with a wine glass full of the good stuff - accompanied by the important observation that the champagne glass they use in F just doesn't have the necessary capacity for moments like this. What followed around the logistics of him distributing dinner to the entire cabin was an at-seat service of the entire bottle of LPGS which, on the second glass, he brought back with him and installed in a makeshift ice bucket in the galley. My glass was never less than half full at any time, with each serving accompanied by the kind of excellent banter that is always the hallmark of a memorable flight on BA. After a much-needed nap, I was very generously presented with an unopened bottle to take home so that "the lady in my life could enjoy herself at BA's expense as well". A visit from the CSD allowed me to share my feelings about the quality of the service I was receiving. Golden ticket and online 'well done' submitted before I made it home.

After countless gruelling hours spent mostly down the back on BA over the last 6 months, it was an experience that has - at least for the time being - reinvigorated my interest in being back on a plane again next week. All thanks to the efforts of one gentleman who clearly went above and beyond, and who I hope I meet on board again soon.

Was given personal a welcome on both LHR-GIB and GIB-LHR this past weekend. I think on both flights, the crew were on the last step of the ladder to becoming CSM, so maybe that was part of the training?

One thing I have noticed is that it appears to be more common on Mixed Fleet flights as opposed to Euro or Worldwide fleets
