Keep paging down however, page 4 is the main shopping mall area.

Thanks CWS the 2 together helped a lot along with a quick look at Google maps for some reason in my mind I thought that B & C were the same distance from A (like stanstead)

confusing lift sign in T5B

I used the passageway for the first time a few weeks ago - probably the calmest place in the whole airport :)

It was a bit confusing going from T5B to T5C - the lift sign suggested that the passageway only goes to T5A ... but thankfully I had read this thread !

I guess the presumption is that no one would walk when they can ride!

I used the passageways 3 times this week! Once arriving at T5C, then later that day from GF to T5B, using the moving walkways, then once again from GF to T5B but without the moving walkways.

The times they give in the passageway seem ridiculous: They give a time at one point of 10 minutes. Less than a minute later it is down to 7! OK, maybe I am a very fast walker, but they did have me worried the first time, which is why I used the moving walkways that time.

Whatever, I timed myself without using the moving walkways: from GF to gate B32 (about the furthest gate) took me just 9 minutes. Definitely something to do most times for me!

Thanks for the guide.

Bang - Bump!

Please may I suggest the illustrated parts of this thread are made a "Sticky" and duplicated on Iberia's section as well as they will be very useful for travellers passing through Heathrow's T5.

Flying JFK>LHR>JNB in late June in F (award!!) This will be my first time arriving and connecting in T5 so this is very helpful to me. Prior flights have been to T3 and bus transfers.
So, what kind of security will I need to clear on arrival as a transiting passenger? Just a passport and boarding pass check or do they scan my carry on? WTMD or body scanner? I assume that I will arrive in T5B or C, then want to get to the CCR and likely I will fly out from T5C on an a 380?
Thanks

Assuming BA for both flights, your bags will be checked in JFK all the way through to JNB. You will remain in the transit channel "T5 to T5 Connections" meaning you will not formally enter the UK, therefore no passport check. Your ongoing boarding pass will be scanned (to verify that you are within the cutoff time of your departing flight), then you will go through a security line (look for a fast track line). Standard wtmd, carry on bags go through the xray machine.

Once clear, make your way to the CCR.

Thank you!
Yes I am on BA for both flights.

The walkways are getting more popular.

I came off BA98 this morning and went straight down the escalator from the C gates to be followed by 4 others (including one man sprinting his way to T5A).

As I was walking - a family of 5 came down at the B gate and started ambling their way down.

It wasn't exactly the oasis of calm I'm used to!

Hi there,

Sorry to revive on old thread ! Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this - I have read it through a couple of times, but just wanted to double check how it all works.

The thing is I suffer from claustrophobia and don't go in lifts/elevators, and where possible I try and avoid crowded underground trains like the ones used on the T5 transit system. I am fine with underground walkways though !

Anyway what I wanted to check is - are there stairs and/or escalators down to and up from the walkway ? i.e. can I get from T5A to either T5B or T5C via the walkway without having to go in a lift ?

We are flying from Heathrow T5 for the first time at Xmas (on BA to Bangkok) and then again the following June (BA to Santorini), so I want to put my mind at rest that it won't be an issue before we go !

Cheers !

Definitely. No problem at all (but the lifts are faster). The escalators are quite long and there are a few you need to go on, as the building is high, but it is definitely do-able.

Welcome to Flyertalk and to the BA forum headingtonboy, it's good to see you here, and I hope that you have good flights to BKK and Santorini.

The Santorini sector is likely to be from T5A, it's not guaranteed, but normally it's gate 22 or 23.

For the passageways, yes, there are a set of escalators down to the transit level, then take the steps right at the end of the platform down to the passageways. At B and C it is obvious how to use the steps up to departure.

Many thanks for the responses on this - I feel much happier now !

Cheers !

If I park up one of our birds on T5C, walk with the crew to the shuttle only to find it is just pulling out of the station I always take the walkway. I am always first to the reclaim hall when the remainder of the crew stay for the shuttle. #sigwxtoptip ^

P.s. I believe this is how to correctly use a hashtag to end a statement, but I will run it past my teenager for confirmation.
