Over sized item - best way to send with BA?

Hello everyone, and apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, as usual my skills with the search engine are not the best...

Anyway, we are shipping all our stuff back with BA through a shipping agent in the next couple of weeks GCM-EDI. We want to keep our baby's cot until we actually leave on April 5th and take with us then. Our baby's cot is about 40" x 38" x a few inches height when flat packed, weighs about 40lbs. I know the 38" is outside the over sized luggage dimensions, and BA's cargo page link to iag cargo wont show the gcm-lhr flights. If we turned up at the airport with it in a big flat box, would we end up having to leave it behind, or can they arrange for it to be shipped as cargo at the airport?

The obvious answer is to just leave it behind and give it to someone, but my wife is rather attached to it....if there is no easy solution for same day shipping from the airport, we'll just ship it ahead of time and the wee lad can sleep in our bed with us.
