LHR- MIA

I've been reading somewhere that the LHR to Miami route is still often run using 747 aircraft with the old first class.
I am aware that BA was giving compensation for people who got old First at the back end of 2013 but I've booked flights for the end of May, coming back mid June and rather than compensation, I'd much rather know that I was going to get new First. Will old First be gone by then or will I be taking a chance? Anyone in the know?

Old First will still be around by then.

Depends what configuration of 747 you are on. MIA is usually a Mid-J but there are days when it is a High-J.

If it is a High-J then it will be NF.

If it is a Mid-J then by the end of May/June it's roughly about around a 40% chance of OF according to this Thread.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...new-first.html

If you do a full dummy CW booking for your dates right to the end of the booking process then you can find out which version is scheduled for your flight by viewing the Seat Maps. (High-J = CW starts from Row 12, Mid-J = showing CW seats from Row 17)

If it is a Mid-J then usually around T-72 hours (IIRC) then if it is NF then wardrobes should disappear and the cot should appear to the right of Seat 5F which is a good indicator.

Alternatively you can call You First the day before or on the day of your flight and they will/should be able tell you.

I was a little bemused when our redemption booking in BA205 in November was cancelled and we were transferred to BA209 on a 747. We were originally seated in 2K/3K but on 747s our seat preference is 2A/2K (2A isn't available - surprising this far off).

Actually, I've just checked our next 3 flights to MIA and they're all 747s. I really need to pay more attention!

I'm fliyng LHR-MIA next August, booked in F. Flight BA207 says 777, so should be NF.
Now I see all 207's as 747. Is this because of an expected schedule change for the summer? Return MIA-LHR BA208, also next Aug., is a 747.

I'm a little confused, but there's plenty of time to clarify!

Old F aint so bad - have i heard correctly if you complain you'll get 50k miles? I'll take old F! I've certainly had old F more than new on the MIA route, and the mid-Js will be around on that route until they are retired from what I have seen on here (although A380s may be starting up?). Also dont forget AA have their new 777-300s running from MIA-LHR now if you can stand T3 jail cell style boarding where J is pretty sweet. Same terminal at MIA anyway. I think the BA777s only run in the summer if i recall correctly with one flight a day in winter on a 747?

EDIT, where are my manners (thanks Globaliser) - warm welcome as well to you RobertoD.

The BA207/BA206 rotation changes to 77W from 1 August 2014: http://airlineroute.net/2013/12/17/ba-mia-aug14/

BA209/BA208 are unaffected and continue to be 744s.

Mmmmm....
Now MMB says 744 for BA207 on Aug 2nd, not anymore 777.
Is this (rotation change) still the case?

This better not be the case for a BA207 later in Aug. I am booked on one of them and MMB still says 777. My past few TATL have been on a 744, so I am kind of looking forward to this slight change.

We are on the BA209 LHR-MIA in Dec and back on the BA206 MIA-LHR. So could be OF then? I didn't think about that at the time of booking. Worth being aware of that possibility anyway.

Just clarify - is the 50k Avios offer applicable to reward bookings?

Wow - good question - I'll be on an Avios booking in Dec, so I want to know the answer to this one as well.

Better yet! It applies on a 2-4-1.

Almost answering the question...I flew lhr bos on an award ticket recently (thru aa saver first) and got 50k avios. Think that was 12.5k plus fees etc for a single first flight, pretty good deal I thought.
