This thread is archived - there is a Galleries First (Flounge) LHR 2015 menu thread here.

This thread gives the current catering options for the Galleries First Lounge (Flounge) in LHR Terminals 3 and 5. This lounge is open to BAEC Gold and oneworld Emerald card holders. Passengers flying BA on a First ticket can also use the Concorde Room. The catering supplier was changed on 2 May 2013 to BaxterStorey. Click here to see the former thread, which covered that turbulent period.

Salmon and chicken cold cuts are available on the salad counter. Here's the new Burnt Cambridge Cream

Um well I am not entirely sure I can share your nutritional analysis! But there was quite a fair bit of lobbying going on (including by me) to get pies back, so it does show you can't please everyone.

Yes, I suspect that actually it hasn't completely gone away. The Flounge buffet has now a lot more rotation. Under the previous caterers it was quite a big event when anything changed on the buffet, now there often is a new item out.

It depends how you define healthy, if you go by the NHS nutritional guidelines to avoid fat and flood your system with sugars (carbs) in the form of bread, pasta etc then yes its unhealthy. If you go by the ever increasing body of evidence that a low carb, high fat diet is actually a far healthier alternative then I would suggest that the pork belly with its very tasty fat is the much better option.

Anyway, people can eat what they want but the point is that things such as cooked meats such as the pork belly, salmon, ribs etc gives you the choice of what you eat it with, if you wrap it in carbs you dont, unless of course you dissect the pie..

Firstly the Burnt Cambridge Cream looks nice. Perhaps they won't leave it for so long under the heat so that it's not burnt next time!

It would be good news if we might see the return of the belly pork under better rotation.

Interesting to see that the choice of "real" hot food options on the menu slightly decreased and yes, I'll be missing the salmon too!

In the pork belly, the fat is very visible because it comes as a layer, but there is plenty of (even more) fat in pies too. Fat in the pastry, fat in the filling, and you pair it with carbohydrates.

In fact, this site says that a typical steak and ale pie is 32% fat vs "only" 23% in pork belly http://caloriecount.about.com/calori...ics-pie-i76418 so even if you looked at fat alone Joely's statement would seem correct, and of course there is much more than the fat issue.

That said, while I don't like the pies, I'm glad people can enjoy them, what I don't understand is the lack of rotation - they will be on for months but some of us are in this lounge every week, sometimes several times a week so it would be nice to NOT have the same buffet hot (be it pork belly, beef rib, or pies) stay around for months in a row.

And to me, cold meat/fish on the buffet (which was already there before) does not replace hot fish/meat options in the a la carte menu.

Woohoo!!! That's great news. They definitely kept you waiting, so I'm sure it was a great relief when it finally happened. Glad to hear you've managed to make bookings already. I really need to do the same as 2 of my jokers will expire at the end of this month. So, when is your next trip...?

Just to keep the thread on topic - I'm only asking as I'm sure you'll be keen to sample the new menu in the F lounge and compare the food to that served in the CCR

Just had the sausages, mash and pea/cabbage combination which is all new. All were very tasty although the gravy was a little salty but maybe that is just my palate!

It all looked very appetising to be honest - lots of empty champagne bottles today but I put that down the the GF lounge being busy!

Changing and continuing to improve is my overall assessment of the lounge at the moment!

I expected the "burnt cambridge cream" to look a lot more like crème brulée

Being a dodgy foreigner myself I'm not very fond of "traditional" British food like pies, sausages et al. but I can see the appeal so as long as enough other options are around, I'm not going to complain. The chicken ramen sounds lovely!

Which came first? Crème brûlée or burnt cream? UK claims French classic as its own

Next trip is Yellowstone in Aug - route is DUB-LHR-JFK-MIA-SEA and then SFO-MIA-JFK-LHR-DUB - I've upgraded the LHR-JFK sections to F using one GUF2 and I had to resort to using a joker to get the outbound redemption.

I need to organise a trip in between so we can sample the CCR prior to Aug - probably try and do an EU weekend trip.

After that the next confirmed trip is Florida for Christmas (start of my membership year) and then into further TP runs to retain status and keep me heading towards LTG.

In the interests of research I went for sausages, mash and steak pie. All a great improvement. Partner went for a burger with cheese and bacon and announced it was 'very nice' which is pretty impressive for someone from Glasgow. I was surprised by the number of staff. Even the men in suits were serving and bringing out gravy when it ran out. A massive improvement all around.
