I did not know you can do this. Now off to figure the best way of using my GUF for at least a couple of return flights on one booking.... BTW, can this be applied to ex-EU too?

Yes Only BA metal flights can be upgraded is the main restriction.

So if you had a Cathay / Malaysia / Qantas mix this won't stop you doing the BA legs?

No that'd be fine - my understanding is that it just makes things a bit more complex from the TA perspective, but it is still doable. I've used Propeller Travel before and they seem to get what's involved, as I'm sure do some others - certain TAs won't touch GUF bookings with a bargepole though!

Haha, did not even know such a thing existed. A TA specifically for FTers... ^

I almost have to use them now.

Good to know! Now some ex-Germany to Hong kong and ex-OSL to Syd would be nice on one ticket if possible. I see this is not gonna be a very productive day

Yes they can be used ex-EU. Manged to get OSL (I know it's not EU) to SYD via LHR and SIN, upgraded from CW to F in earlier this year, and have an AMS to JNB upgraded on the LHR to JNB leg to F for next February. All done through the GGL line using jokers, but I have also used a TA in the past for ex EU.

Nice to be mentioned!

Yes, we exist, we can do GUF2/1's starting from anywhere including the weird and wonderful 12 + segments EX-EU runs you find on ITA which we do daily.

Love the way you even mention GUFs on your website (under fees). Will contact you next time I need to book one.

This entire started because I couldn't find what I wanted as someone who travels internationally 7-10 times a week and I was tired of explaining myself. (at the time I was also HON Running which lead to many raised eye brows from agents).

The world changed a lot since 10 years ago but the concept of TP runs / Mileage Runs / HON runs (ok that happens less since 2012) etc didn't, so it is definitely one of our focus groups.. Serve someone very well on their MR's / GUF2's/2-1's etc, win their long term business. etc etc.

anwyay, enough about us, even though my mother always said the world revolves around me.

Might be a daft question - to use the GUF directly at booking, is award availability also needed in the "from" class as well as the "to" class?

When you book via a travel agent it goes into a revenue booking, the from class is irrelevant, only what you are upgrading into.

So T for WTP
I CW
A First

The amount of payment is calculated as the lowest possible legal fare for the underlining class of service at time of booking (not the lowest available, so you can pay for I class even if it wasn't available at the time you upgraded to A)
