Tesco and Avios
Tesco, the major UK supermarket chain, allows you to convert Tesco Clubcard (CC) points to Avios. The standard earning rate is 1 CC point per £1 spent in store. They convert to Avios in the ratio of 1 CC point to 2.4 Avios or 2.5 Virgin miles. Every quarter, your points are converted to coupons and mailed to you - they can then be converted via the CC website to Avios or Virgin miles. Typically, it takes 1-2 working days for a conversion to BA Avios to complete.

The key to rapidly earning large amounts of Avios is the regular bonus point offers where large amounts of points can be earned. The latest are listed below and discussed within this thread.

The last period for collecting Clubcard points finished on 16 October 2014.

The last day for collecting points in the current quarter is 21 January 2015
.

Topcashback (TCB)

As of the middle of May, most cashback can also be transferred directly to your Avios account 1p=1 Avios. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/

You can still pay Sky by direct debit and receive the DD discount. If you make additional payments with the 3V card it will just reduce the amount collected in a future direct debit.

You can also pay over. So for example if your bill is £73 you can still use 3x£25 cards and the balance will carry forward.

As for energy companies SSE takes these on their automated phone system.

The deposit can be paid by combining 3Vs to make £150 or whatever as I've done it.
Best if you've got money off coupons (say £13 off £90 spend) so that you're not paying 6 x £1.75 charges (£10.50) for merging cards.

i.e.
£25 card + £25 card = £50 less £1.75 = £48.25
£48.25 card + £25 card = £73.25 less £1.75 = £70.50
£70.50 card + £25 card = £95.50 less £1.75 = £93.75
£93.75 card + £25 card = £108.75 less £1.75 = £107.00
£107.00 card + £25 card = £132.00 less £1.75 = £130.25
£130.25 card + £25 card = £155.25 less £1.75 = £153.50

Well, you need to buy 8 cards for £200 (600 CC points / 1440 Avios) and whatever is left you can use to make payments without additional card merging.

Another way you can use these on BA is for Avios reward flight saver redemptions.

One way in business class is £25+Avios so fits nicely on one card.

When I bought a bunch of these cards just before the National Savings loophole was stopped I used up a number in this way.

Please note: paying for flights in this manner would mean you'd not get insurance coverage from Amex if you hold an appropriate card.

and if you pay before your bill is generated they adjust your DD accordingly so that you pay less (or nothing if in credit). Unfortunately I've just switched to Virgin Media (for the broadband not the Tesco points !) and they don't seem to do amend your DD

Thanks xenole, I didn't know that. Always thought the deposit had to be paid with one card and as deposits are higher than £25 you couldn't do it with 3V. I will try it with my next ba holiday booking.

I think this has been answered already, but I just make individual £25 payments against my sky bill until the balance is less than £25. That balance is then collected by direct debit. Works very well.

Thanks for the tip, I benefitted from this earlier today.

On an aside note, can I just say that as a newbie to Avios (and the whole points game) this thread has been enlightening. Thanks to everyone who posts the current offers, it really is appreciated.

My Avios balance is currently zero but I am hoping that with all the invaluable information in this forum I can quickly rectify that.

I will try to add to posts where I can but for now I think I will be asking more than answering questions.

I bought the Game Of Thrones S4 boxset and went through TCB. Have £7.03 cashback confirmed already (10% for buying something and £5.25 for a new customer) on top of my pizza voucher / 1000 CC points.

How long for points to show..

I'm relatively new to collecting points/avios. How long does it take for bonus clubcard points to appear? I've done both the blinkbox books offer of 2000 clubcard points and the Lego offer of 500 points last weeks but the points have yet to show in my account..does it take a while?

Yes, it can. It's a case of being patient and keeping an eye on your account, they will appear at some point
