Not sure if you are mostly tempted by the Comtes de Champagne, the Clos de Vougeot, the Le Pin, or the Cote Rotie, but either way, you wouldn't be disappointed!

OT:

On Christmas Eve we settled for a 2008 head to head of St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classe B vs. a Pessac Grand Cru Classe, and also a few solid Italians which I do not remember much of except they were rather good. The Pessac came out on top and I did not find the St Emilion as good as I had hope for.

To quell any doubts on Boxing day (needed 24h to recover) we lined up another bottle of the 2008 St Emilion against a 2008 Barolo which was allowed to breathe for 2 hours. Wow... Bordeaux really shone this time.

Orbitmic; when do we blind date taste?

The Taittinger Comptes de Champagne is very tasty! I think it was the 2004 vintage that I've tried.

We certainly should!! I've still got somewhere a thought to contact you when I pass through Stockholm but haven't for such a long time (with great sadness too, beautiful city!)

St Emilion is a strange appellation - some of the greatest Grands Crus can prove phenomenal, others very disappointing. Even character seems to vary with some of the wines being quite heady and strong, and others more delicate, closer to nearby Pomerol. I'd say that of all the great Bordeaux, it is the one I feel least capable of choosing and understanding. Such a pretty village though!

PS: did a bit of Japanese whisky tasting while doing work in that beautiful country the week before last, not an unpleasant fate either!!

Not much into blind dates, but I'll hop on a good blind wine tasting. Say we all bring a bottle of Bordeaux 1st or 2nd Cru...

Location/Time?

This summer there were good wines in GF, but you're right. It certainly seems "enhanced" now. I'm here now for the final time this year and there's nothing to write about. But at least the Tatt is still drinkable.

There was a rather good Chateau Fuisse Tete de Cru on the way back from CPT this week and even the el cheapo Spanish Sauv Blanc they doled out in CE yesterday was pleasant enough.

At the airport though, well, I echo above comments about uninspiring (if not necessarily poor) wines in GF.

Who'll be the first to start the 2015 head. Petrus?
