Mmm. Coming back my sister, her other half, and I are all in CW (UD). Neither of them have any status, but by then I will be GGL/CCR. So I can take them both in to the GF, or they could go in to the GC whilst I try out the CCR - never been in the one at JFK. Perhaps I could pretend I just need to do so shopping in the terminal and leave them in the GC
You can only guest one person into the CCR as a CCR cardholder unless you are flying F when you can guest in 2 people.

I know. We are in CW on the way back so I can't guest them both in to the CCR. Hence my (first world) problem. Do we all go to the GF together, or do I dump them in the GC whilst enjoying the CCR by myself. I guess I could take one of them in the CCR, but that seems unfair

The BWI lounge has had Moët for some time. The women who work there are some of the friendliest lounge employees I have come across.

This Taittinger Prélude is rather nice in the flounge (thanks Hugolover). Haven't had the courage to try the Castelmaine

Yesterday in T5 Flounge was another disappointment with no classified red Bordeaux to be seen, and of course more importantly, to be drunk.

It seems to happen a lot at the moment, and I'm personally not happy about it...

Haven't we moved beyond needing a bottle of claret on every wine list?

I'd be happy if they managed a good spread of grapes and countries, and given the price point seems to be dropping (unfortunately), I'd stay away from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the USA and look for better old and new world value.

But we all have different tastes.

Certainly not if you ask me!!!

As you say, tastes do vary but I don't feel too lonely in feeling that the great Bordeaux age and taste differently from any other. In that sense, having only Bordeaux wines would mean some other tastes would not be accounted for, but in their complete absence an entire style is out. Parker mania means many people have now taken to enjoy far bolder, far fruitier, and often far more alcohol-loaded red wines, but even without going all the way to a one of a kind Petrus, those of us who prefer more complex (dare I say subtle?) and aged wines will have badly missed a Bordeaux growth in the offerings of my last few visits.

I had a similar problem last month, I was in F travelling to DFW, my OH (Silver) and daughter (Rust) had coincidentally booked themselves a trip to JFK in WT at about the same time which I then upgraded for them with £s to WT+. I did the decent thing and spend an hour or so with them in GC before they went shopping, as laydees do, at which point I went into the CCR on my own. GC was OK in fact, I managed to get over myself.

Thanks Howard Long. My post was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but since I will have a CCR card from July until the end of next year I am keen to try out the JFK CCR. I think I might take my sister in and leave her other half in the GC just as a treat for her.

Personally, we are more amused when displaying 5-6 red wines, at least ONE red Bordeaux ("better old world value") is found among them.

We appreciate your tolerance on that. Perhaps a way to satisfy all tastes could be an alternative to 5-6 reds of unknown new world value, 3-4 of these and 2 of known old world value?

Today, we were entertained, although not amused to the level of making notes for the wine shop, by a 2009 Newton Johnson Full Stop Rock (Syrah/Grenache/Mourvedre), which, according to Googled reports, seems to be a rather good low-cost new world alternative to a red Rhone. But better value (for money)? Not so sure.

I had a good portion of a bottle of 2004 Chateau Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Leognan on the way home from Atlanta - however it was spoiled by being swamped with sediment.

I sympathise with the process of getting the wine on-board - which must involve it being shaken about for a good while - but aside from travelling with a pack of coffee filters does anyone have a clever way of getting sediment free wine on-board?

This must be a first world problem to end all first world problems. I think coffee filters are the way to go (and, of course, they pack tight and light). However, IME, the wine drains through them extremely slowly so you would need a capacious funnel to hold the filter and a glass' worth wine, and a degree of patience. Also a thick skin to deal with the FAs and your fellow passengers.

Muslin cloth, folded over several times. Not as foolproof as a coffee filter, but much quicker. Avoid white coffee filters, go for the unbleached ones.
