All introductory offers are subject to change, can be withdrawn at any time and are not available if your friend currently holds or has held any other British Airways American Express Credit Cards in the past six months.

Promotions

Retention offers
  • I had a BA Blue card. I called to ask if there were any incentives to upgrade to the BAPP one. I was told no (which eventually proved to be untrue, as I got a non-advertised bonus on my first spend), and when I said that I probably would've just cancelled the card and reapplied in the future, I was offered 3 Avios per £1 for 3 months. I later on upgraded to the BAPP, within those 3 months, and I kept the triple Avios retention promotion until it expired. (ringingup - May 2014)

Voucher eligible spend
Pretty much everything counts towards the £10,000 (or £20,000) required to earn a 2-4-1 Companion Voucher, including the following which might be unexpected:
  • Foreign transaction fees

A few things that don't:
  • Annual membership fee
  • Interest payments
  • Transactions under £1 (although you can earn the single Avios )

The online total to the right of the card summary is pretty up to date, and far more useful for tracking spend than what the statements show.

Insurance
Both standard and Premium Plus cards include insurance benefits for goods and services purchased on the card. Full details here and here respectively. Summary of Premium Plus benefit are shown here, with standard card offering same cover unless alternate figure is shown in parentheses:
  • Purchase protection: £2,500
  • Refund protection: £300 (£200) per item
  • Flight delay / cancellation / overbooking / missed: £200 (£0)
  • Baggage delay (6+ hours): £750 (£0)
  • Baggage delay (48+ hours): £1,000 (£0), additional to 6 hours benefit
  • Accident: £250,000 (£75,000)
  • Hijack (24+ hours): £1,500
  • Hijack (72+ hours): £3,000, additional to the 24h benefit

Ok contacted AMEX - they say I have the offer however it is likely a timing issue in that it isn't flowing through just yet on my dashboard.

At least I am eligible for the offer...that was my main worry!

Can anyone clarify if I cancel the Amex Gold card, is the lounge card you receive also cancelled? If not, how can I link a new payment card to the lounge card?

Has anybody recently been offered any kind of 'bonus' to upgrade from the free to the premium card? I realise as per the Wiki that you won't get the 25,000 sign up bonus, but ringingup's comment suggesting that sometimes you might get something or other is now 3.5 years old. Any more recent datapoints?

I looked at this earlier in the year, and I'm fairly sure it gets cancelled pretty rapidly after you close your account.
I also get the impression that the £25/visit is a special rate, so you wouldn't be able to link a different card.

Just picked up that my Amex BA plus card's aren't depositing my collected avios via financial spend into my BAEC account ? Can't remember if I have to do it manually or there is a issue with my accounts ? Additionally must I of paid the total sum I owe before they start transferring ?

Pretty confused as this stuff isn't my forte

Thanks

It should happen automatically if you registered the correct BAEC details when you took out the Amex card but sometimes it doesn't work correctly. Transfers happen a few days before your statement date each month. No you shouldn't need to pay anything off and there is no way to transfer manually.

I had exactly this same problem last year (Avios not transferring at all). I contacted Amex and they said there had been a problem linking the two accounts. They did some back office work and it was sorted though it took a few weeks.

If I were you I would contact Amex by phone or via the online chat system.

Hope that helps.

In theory, once the accounts are linked, there are usually no problems, right? I'm assuming you're both talking about new accounts here...

Kind of - Actually mine was working fine with the free BA card. When I upgraded to the Premium Plus card, it stopped working until Amex fixed it manually. It's all worked fine since.

Update as per post #1571

Contacted Amex and after verifying my whole life since i was born after a 30 min wait on the online chat section , agent informed me no BA FF number was attached to my account ? Agent said case has been sent in for it to be updated and could take 4 weeks max . So guessing no chance of flying on Saturday

Quick question fruitcage, how long did it take for it to "get working " again , as in how long before points got switched ?

Hoping somebody can provide and answer for me rather than me diving through Tís&Cís.

I currently have an Amex (unsure of the exact title of it), and my 1st year with Amex is up in April
Iím seriously toying with the idea of moving to a Premium Plus BA Amex - solely for the 2-4-1 voucher.
however, am I entitled to the welcome bonus (spend X amount in 3 months and gain X amount of bonus Avios) if I just switch from Amex to BA Amex?
Or do I need to leave Amex altogether and rejoin?
