Welcome to the thread—but please read this bit first
New to the thread? Welcome! If you are asking about obtaining tier points in the current sale, please read the following posts first.
  • from DUB, IL28SALE - to US reported here, e.g. JFK - €1140, LAX - €1395, HNL - €1395, needs to be booked by 27 Jan, see linked post for valid travel periods
  • from CPH, IL28SALE - to US reported here, e.g. JFK - Ł804, LAX - Ł1149, HNL - Ł1220, needs to be booked by 27 Jan, see linked post for valid travel periods
  • from BRU, IL28SALE - to US reported here, e.g. JFK - Ł1344, LAX - Ł1367, HNL - Ł1465, needs to be booked by 15 Jan, see linked post for valid travel periods

If your question is not answered there, or you want more help, please do post in the Business Class IL28SALE fares: DUB/CPH/BRU to North America thread and join in.

In the rest of this wiki, we keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Upgrading Using Avios (UUA)
Summary guide to bookings which can be upgraded with Avios:
  • BA issued tickets (can include other carriers) ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with only BA flights ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with other carriers

Notes
  • The ITA Matrix tool cannot be used to book tickets.
  • Some TP runs can be booked online at aa.com. Be sure to use the Sort by schedule option in order to locate the exact flights you found on the ITA Matrix tool.
  • A guide to using the ITA Matrix tool can be found here.

Doh I haven't used it for a while and vaguely remembered they'd added some BA features recently.

I would almost believe it coming from anyone but you

I'm sure you'll have an amazing time. The A321 is definitely the best transcon option.
Thanks. Mrs B hasn't been to LA before and I've got 10hrs layover so I was hoping to grab a taxi and show her the sex shops, er I mean walk of fame, of Hollywood. Or some such touristy things.

The connection is permitted by all accounts except on ba.com. It seems to be manually programmed to permit only connections greater than two hours. The website only explicitly admits this if you force it on the multicity page, otherwise it doesn't show the connection.

I think someone highlighted this problem a few tens of pages upthread.

The connection is disallowed on ba.com if forced on the ba.com multicity search by explicitly naming LCY as an intermediate stop. It may be allowed if found as a straightforward connection, and will be allowed by phone or through a travel agent.

No, I don't think that this is quite what's happening. ba.com will offer you plenty of connections that are under two hours - including 60-minute T5-T5 connections.

What I think happens is that if you use the multi-city page, the first chunk and the second chunk are always treated as if they are not connections. And what ba.com is doing is requiring a arbitrary minimum of two hours between the chunks because they're not connections. Because it's now difficult to see the fare calculation on a BA-issued ticket, it's difficult to see whether a trip that's booked like that has these two chunks written as a connection or stopovers, so it's difficult to confirm whether this is the reason for the behaviour.

I think you can see the same behaviour in action if you try to book LHR-xxx-LHR on the same day. I think that there are some return flights that won't be shown even though they would be legal if they were a connection (which technically they aren't).

For someone who's trying to build a complex trip on a route that's not otherwise offered by ba.com, this limitation can be frustrating whatever underlies it, but I think these are likely to be edge cases, and such itineraries should normally be bookable (with the ticket properly written as connections) by calling BA. And people shouldn't be under the misapprehension that ba.com never offers <2h connections.

It is pretty frustrating when you can never book a multi-city itinerary with < 2h connections online! If I see the flights I want on ITA with multiple connections, I hardly even bother going to ba.com and instead get straight on the phone.

Brilliant find by lorcancoyle on the HNL-LIM fare, although I can't seem to make it work (searching Feb-May 2015). What might I be getting wrong? Would live to stack it with an ex-DUB-HNL. I can't seem to get SAL working any more, either.

Can't find any of the HI-Central America runs. All seem to be lapsed. If that is indeed correct, should probably update the WIKI.

A lot of them are still available at similar prices, but currently require a 7 day stay.

To be clear, I was talking specifically at LCY. It may be the same behaviour as your describe, since I very rarely fly through LCY let alone connect there. (LCY-LBA doesn't seem to be on the cards ...)

I'm happy to be corrected if that's wrong.

Well, I think you are correct, since I found EDI-LCY-GRX on Thursday with a 65 minute connection for sale on ba.com, but the exact itinerary is disallowed when found on the multicity search.

Might be worth forwarding to the ba.com IT people.

Not the best TP run ever, but I've found:

LIS-JFK-MIA : BA499, BA177, AA2387
LAS-JFK-LCY : AA120, BA4
LCY-AMS : BA 8451

Prices on ITA at 2087€ (GBP1600) p.p. Trying to book it though, BAEC wants GBP 3,300 p.p. Multiple agents say AA120 not combinable with BA4.

Is this true and is ITA Matrix giving me bad info or are BAEC wrong. I've already tried multiple agents.

AA120 appears to be LAS-JFK-CDG. The TATL part might be the root of their confusion?

What fare component is covering LAS-JFK-LCY? You should state it to the telephone agents.

Can you book it directly on aa.com?

BA Tier Point runs | 2014 master thread

My mum wants to go to BOS next year so just made use of the I7SALE and booked us DUB - LCY - JFK - BOS - LHR - DUB. Not great £/TP but including the BA1, I got it for £968!! Used 20,000 Avios pp to upgrade the return to F (we're on the day flight back). What an amazing fare!

You might want to check your MMB as mines completely disappeared tonight hence me noticing it.
A further heads up. They have now taken the Sunday flight out of commission as well.

Nobody has contacted me at all. Im discovering all this nonsense myself and having to move my holiday about all over the place. Looks like im going to be losing 70 points now as cant wait until the monday.

Be sure to use SPF 30+ or stay under a parasol having a beach day, and taking a sick leave on Monday. A fresh pacific tan and no snoring/coughing might raise some eybrows. OTOH, you might get away with an excuse day trip to NCE/BCN/MAD/LIS on Saturday before cold developing early Sunday.

Less OT: anyone else having problems with ITA today? All searches I did yesterday returns "no available flights" today. A little frustrating as I'm trying to grab a CPH-HEL-LHR/LCY-JFK-LAX-HNL return while this non-sale fare still lasts

- JFK-LCY on BA4, straight into the office, albeit a couple of hours late, on Monday

Quite a hardcore jaunt, but up to 1,040 points for around Ł1,130, plus positioning flights and hotel in New York ^

Obviously this has to be booked before the DUB sale ends and is subject to sale rules and fare availability.
Must be very convenient to work Monday in the Dublin office, as I presume a return flight to DUB might have been lost during cut/paste
