Upgrading Using Avios (UUA)
Summary guide to bookings which can be upgraded with Avios:
  • BA issued tickets (can include other carriers) ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with only BA flights ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with other carriers
  • Tickets issued on non-BA stock
TA has to issue the ticket in the country of your BAEC membership as well.

Notes
  • The ITA Matrix tool cannot be used to book tickets.
  • Some TP runs can be booked online at aa.com. Be sure to use the Sort by schedule option in order to locate the exact flights you found on the ITA Matrix tool.
  • A guide to using the ITA Matrix tool can be found here.

Also I wouldn't specificy BA between HEL and LHR since AY is an option and would also earn 80 TPs although a bit less avios.

The oneworld restriction ensures you will retrict to AY, BA, US, and AA flights and also see any oneworld codeshares as occasionally these can be cheaper (e.g. IB codeshare for BA1 is sometimes cheaper that BA flight number).
Well sure, I know how the search works - I would also do DCA,BOS,CLT,PHL instead of just DCA if I were trying cover as many routing options as possible. But I happened to know about the AA via DCA option from some searches I did last week, and you can sometimes get a wider selection of flights/timings by being more specific.

Would prefer BA since that would give me quite a bit more Avios with the promotion, but can't seem to find any deals with BA to US or other destinations that would give me 500+ TP before November 8th in the same price range.
Fair deal?
Does anyone know if there are _any_ RT trips possible to book in C from EU to US on either BA, AA or AY below $2,500 before November 8th? Would rather fly in that direction than SIN to get the last 500 TPs required for the GUF2 voucher.

I have tried so many different searches on Google flight, but not been able to find anything that I can fly on before Nov 8th...

Think outside the box... Take economy to New York then do an LGA-LGB run ($1080 for 660 points) . $2500 should be plenty for that.

Possible run this evening

Hello,

I have the opportunity to do a quick TP run this evening from LON.

Max £400 overnight stay ok.

What is the best way of searching for a flight?

Regards,

Kernow

How many TPs do you need?

OK, since you guys are much smarter than me... what am I missing? I've tried to price up a couple of runs and can't get anywhere near the prices listed on the wiki (circa 4x appears to be the number!).

It looks like I'll have a week spare and around £1.5-2k to play with, ideally I'd like to re-land gold (currently on 360, reset December 8) but since I'm aiming for lifetime, overshooting is fine.

Suggestions?

Runs to where? Have you got any particular places in mind to go to or restrictions to dates/length of time for each run? Do you want to just do exUK, or do you want to look at exEU?

You should shoot for departure in Nov 23 - Nov 30 window, from BRU or CPH. It is still possible to get a pretty good fare, however availability is spotty, so extra overnight stays may be required. Set matrix to "calendar of lowest fares" starting on Nov 23rd, and play with the duration of stay using the following routing codes:

BRU-HNL/OGG: ba lon ba1-4 jfk phx
OGG/HNL-BRU: phx jfk ba1-4 lon ba

CPH-HNL/OGG: ay hel ay,ba lon ba1-4 jfk phx
HNL/OGG-CPH: phx jfk ba1-4 lon ay,ba hel ay

I can get a quote of £1,760.08 for BRU-HNL departing on Nov 25 and departing back Dec 2, overnights in LON and NYC on outbound leg though.

that's the one I mentoined a few posts up? £643 for 660 TPs LGA - LGV return and £500 ish return to fly 'longer' to LGA with US earning 240 TPs for that Y flight. so 900 in total for just under £1,200.

go to matrix.

type in LON as depature point.
routing code: "/ alliance oneworld"
destination: pick somewhere in Europe. like say MXP. then click on 'nearby' and increase distance to 1,000 or even 2,000.
cabin: business or higher

that way, you are essentially searching for fares anywhere in Europe. You might have to do a few different ones - like one for "Spain plus 1,000 miles", one for "PRG plus 1,000" etc.

you could also try late deals or so but not sure they do them for Tuesday departures.

clearly you are quite limited with "it has to be tonight" so it's a case of finding a CE flight (or two connecting ones) that has I class for sale.

have peeps seen the discussion somewhere else on here on the mistake fare F for J?

sadly, the dates don't work for me at all (already doing HNL) and so far, can only price it US - UK but it's a cracker (which I dont think will last very long as definitely a mistake).

I have 0 preference on the destination - it really is purely to rack the TPs (I know I should get a life!)

I think I can swing 4 days away from home with nothing to do but sit on planes/ in airports.

Time wise, again fairly flexible but need to be done before the year reset really

Thanks for the tips so far!

I think this is what chris1979 is refering to. Seems to be some discussion of low J fares which are booking in to F if booked under US codeshare?

yep.

dates dont work for me at all but had a play on matrix. can't get it to price C1 to C2 but could get it to replicate the routing posted there. I didnt take it as far as trying Orbitz or anywhere else though. Seems to have ticketed for others ok though.
