Well done! Probably about a day and a half too long in LA . I can recommend a really good, central, affordable hotel in LA which I've stayed in a couple of times (10 years apart) - Hollywood Celebrity Hotel. Still in negotiations about joining you on the BA1 on 2 July

To where? You can only go to LHR on BA or TXL with AB from GOT with oneworld carriers so that would be 40+40=80 TPs in J.

Thanks. Yes I thought 2 days would be sufficient to do most of the interesting stuff in LA and tick it off the list. ORD was the other place I was looking to go but Chicago seems an interesting place to go and deserves more than 2 days I think.

Jamier45 and his girlfriend may be on BA1 on 2 July as well heading to HNL so if you can come as well we can really have a party onboard

I thought a direct flight,(ie LHR-SYD) means a stop but without changing flight#'s
Forget GOT. My fault. Let's say LHR

What dates did you find for DKK15,610 BoeBus? End of November would be in next year earning cycle, but that many TP for DKK15,610 is tempting!

Well even if we mean direct flights so can stop but no change in flight number the answer is still the same then from GOT as you can only get to LHR on BA or TXL on AB before you have to change flight numbers to something else and connect onwards.

If we say from LHR then the answer would be one of the >6,000 mile long haul routes so LHR to CPT, EZE, HND, NRT, SIN. These would all be on one flight number and yield the following TPs each way:

40 economy (discounted)
80 economy (full fare)
100 premium economy
160 business
240 first

For LHR-SYD there is BA15/16 which stops in SIN but mantains the same flight number on to SYD. If the flight has one flight number (i.e. BA15 LHR-SYD) which has a stopover in SIN, you would receive TPs each way as if it were a direct flight, so:

60 economy (discounted)
120 economy (full fare)
150 premium economy
240 business
360 first

If you book it as say BA11 LHR-SIN, then BA15 SIN-SYD, you will get TPs for each leg which will work out as more, but you would not me on a direct flight and not keep the same flight number.

Earns 780 TPs so £1.89/TP.

Also UuA'ed the LHR-IAD leg to F for 20k avios. It is not the best itinerary for TPs, there was an option to do LAX-CLT-JFK on the way back which would have got an additional 130 TPs, but I didn't fancy it. Anyway, includes some new experiences for me so first A380 flight ever and in F, and first flight on one of the AA A321 transcons in J.

I will have two full days in LA and I am sure I can amuse myself there. Apart from passing through LAX, this will be my first visit to LA.
Had the pleasure of trying 1A on the A380 from LHR-LAX this summer, was very pleased with the new cabin! Lived in LA, and plenty of fun things to fill a couple of days with there!

Thanks KARFA!

Read your TR from Norway (I'm from Norway, so it was a fun read) - awesome pictures from Tromsø! Oslo is definitely more pleasant in the summer. THE Thief is a new hotel at Tjuvholmen in Oslo that I can recommend to anyone going to Oslo. Fantastic new hotel with excellent location, and by far the best in Oslo (and Norway) The Thief

Thank you for the comments on the TR. I really enjoyed that one. I am actually off to Oslo next May for a long weekend to go around properly so your hotel recommendation is very timely.

Awesome, May is a very good time to visit Oslo. Our national day is May 17th, and quite the experience if you can fit that into the trip!
My friend is a manager in the chain that owns The Thief, so if you send me a PM with the dates you could probably get a nice deal there (unless you want to book with points).

Argh.

Ok, so if I stick with my current tactic of front loading 2015/2016, I still have a gap for 2014/15.

I am thinking of doing the below for "....s and giggles" reasons, because it fills that gap, it's a good blended TP ratio etc. it's a bit full on and it's in Y for the TATL to NYC.

Can you have a look please and tell me that that's a good ideal, very sensible and basically shut up any doubting voices in my head and make me book it.

Thursday.
LGW AMS
AMS PHL
PHL DCA
DCA LGA (arrives 9.17pm)

Nestle in F:
Friday (dept 8.59am) LGA PHL PHX LGB (same plane turnaround) PHX (overnight) BOS LGA (arrives 9.21am on Saturday)

Sunday
LGA DCA
DCA PHL
PHL AMS
AMS LGW

Y TATL costs £489.60 and earns (assuming US still does full Y TP and Avios for discounted Y by March next year) 19,948 Avios and 240 TPs

F run costs £692 earns 15,938 Avios and 660 TPs.

Total cost £1,181.60 earning 35,886 Avios and 900 TPs.

Good idea?

Or is there an ex CPH (or so) routing for same price (£1,200) that earns similar TPs (900)?

Argh.

I don't think Y long haul is for you anymore (was it ever?). I would put money on you not taking this option. I think if you did it we would need some photos and notarised statements from your fellow Y passengers stating that you did it and remained in the cabin for the whole flight.

I of course, as a man of the people, would be able to do Y long haul and naturally belnd in. I just choose not to
