Upgrading Using Avios (UUA)
Summary guide to bookings which can be upgraded with Avios:

That doesnt give you the 4 BA metal flights though. Is there a reason for you to be in Europe at all? i.e. you could split it into normal flights to Europe with BA (whether that's Y or J) and then do 2 runs from LAX which can easily give 600 or more each.

seems a bit 'hard work' and inefficient to start do an ex EU run to HNL from a LAX starting point unless you can get a good deal LAX to EU to start with and the HNL run then just becomes a nestled trip.

Yeah, I looked at the ex-LAX/SFO/LAS routes, but the HNL-LAX-MIA-SAL-MIA-LAX-HNL looks like a bigger and easier bang for the buck. The trouble is the 4 BA metal flights.

No reason to be in Europe at all, but don't mind partying out there. I've got plenty of miles, so repositioning is not too much of an issue.

Agreed that an ex-EU run would be a bit nutty…which is why I was checking into ex-Hawaii as I could easily fly there, hang out on the beach, do the run, hang out on the beach, and return to California.

There are a number of AY Business destinations with competitive prices for the travel period of 01.06.2014-31.05-2015.

At this time, nothing from BRU, but aside from MAD, quoted above, ARN-HEL-BKK r/t for 13780SEK/£1179 and ARN-HEL-SIN-SYD r/t (last leg on QF) for 29990SEK/£2566 shines somewhat brighter.

The TPs are 360 for BKK and 640 for SYD. The £/TP quotas are, of course not comparable to the diagonal NA islands run (HNL-SJU/STT/SXM), but for popular destinations going east or southeast, you might consider the vacation quota too

Huge missunderstanding. TPs are never "valid" they are earned during a membership year and the total amount of earned TPs during each membership year determines your status. TPs are only used to determine status and the only thing that counts is when you earned them (ie took your flight).

Call or contact someone who can make the booking for you. There is at least one such person active here...

It's hard to say if there would be any difference between a "hotline" booking and a "non-hotline" booking (not sure what you mean by "hotline" here) but that would be determined by the booking classes and not by the source of the booking anyhow. So assuming it's the exact same thing you book, you would not have a problem.

TP are valid until your renewal date, at which point they are deleted. The maximum they can be valid for it twelve months: if you took a flight the day after your renewal date. If you had a flight a few days before your membership year ended, your tier points might only be "valid" for a couple of days before expiring.

You were lucky here. Points are usually awarded within two or three days of your flight, not the day you "get back". Actually you are cutting this a bit fine because there might be a delay in awarding your points of more than three days, but you can extend your membership year by two weeks if this happens.

Hi There, i'm looking to move from Silver to Gold before end of August, I am currently at 1250 TP's and have two return trips to LHR-HEL-LHR booked between these dates (one booked fully flexible, and another with no flexibility).

If i UUA to CE will I earn extra TP's? If not can anyone suggest some options for a TP run from London to get the remainder?

No. Can you "POUG" the inflexible one?

The best suggestion is a tier point run to HEL in CE. Often you can tack on a couple of domestics for little extra outlay but adds 40 TP onto the total. It depends on your timing of course.

There are some reasonable prices for IST as well if you'd prefer a change of scenery.

San Francisco to Turks and Caicos

This route might come in useful for a bit of island hopping:

It works in reverse too [but at £335 due to the PLS departure tax]. Also, I managed to build in a 2 week stopover between MIA and PLS for the same fare.

Careful, UUA will not get you any extra tier points, you basically stay on Economy ticket but sit in the pointy end.

I would either regularly look for the ~89 GBP upgrade in Manage my booking (not always offered) or similar fixed price upgrade at the airport (not always offered) or book a quick TP run to RAK, SKG, HEL, IST or similar as suggested (probably too late for reasonable price now).

Not quite a TP run, but nevertheless a very decent fare from ICN in First which might fit neatly into people's plans:

Fare Code ASPCL3
Departure before 31/08/14
Max stay 12 months
Cancellation KRW 300,000 (~GBP 180), changes KRW 150,000 (~GBP 90)
Stopover in LHR available both ways (and NRT, if one chooses to fly through it)
LHR base fare is slightly more expensive than all European cities (excl DME) which are available for same price, incl ATH and IST.

Fare incl. taxes and surcharges: e.g. KRW 3,500,000 to IST, which works out as ~£2000 at current exchange rates.

TP potential: GMP-HND-LHR-ATH works out at 330 one-way (40+210+80), so 660 round-trip. (ICN-NRT is mono class so only 20 TPs)

Craziest thing: Cheapest base fare in N is GBP 759, T is GBP 1171, I is GBP 1318, and A is GBP 1604. It means upfare from N to A is less than GBP 450 per direction!

Hi All,

I'm trying to route Palma to JFK via London City. I specifically want to be on the baby bus to NYC.

BA flies Palma to City however neither the BA website nor the Matrix will allow me to then include LCY - JFK in the routing. It keeps trying to send me to LHR

Seems odd

Any help, much appreciated!

Presumably, they individually could work? Given you can stop for as long as 23h and 59m, it work even of the PMI flight gets in after LCY.

Have you tried inputting LCY and BA1-4 into the routing on matrix?

I just tried on matrix and it's possible.

you need to input "lcy ba1-4" into the 2nd line (routing codes). Doesn't throw up any results for Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (I did a 1 month search for September) and I am not suggesting that the £8k fare matrix throws up is worthy of mention in the Tier Point run thread but it's possible so I presume if you construct it with the right fares (if any decent fares can be combined for that route), it should work.

It looks like (only had a brief glance at the results which throw up all sorts of code-share combos) the PMI - LCY flight time means you can connect on BA3 on the same day or could try for BA1 next day.

Fridays and weekend might be different.

Smile TP run for September J or F

Can anyone tell me if there is a TP route matrix available for September?
Looking to maximise my tier points as need 1K to retain my BA Gold
Have time to travel mid September and would be looking for J/F routes
I remember a while back a table posted with routes, TP's earned and costs
Has anyone seen another or have I missed it.?
Can travel to the USA and do a run there.
Want to try the A318 LCY/JFK, the new AA A321 Transcon service so thought maybe there are some good routes to crank up TP's in J or F
Appreciate all you guys comments and look forward to some great ideas
