I think Matrix may still toss in Y segments at times, but of course one must always double check this.

Interesting. After much effort (using the "choose by schedule" vs. "choose by price" option on the AA multi-city engine), I replicated your fare for dates in October when I used aa.co.uk. But when trying to get the same flights on aa.com, using the same method, there was one flight that I'd chosen on aa.co.uk that I wasn't even offered on aa.com. The best fare I could get was $1129, well more than the translated GBP price. It's still a decent fare, so I might book it anyway, but I am curious as to why the exact flights and the fare weren't offered to me.

BA Tier Point Runs from EDI

Hi All,

I am looking for a weekend EDI-based run to net me 180 tier points before my collection year ends on 8th August. This will bump me from Bronze to Silver for lounge access :-)

I can only travel at weekends, when I am based in EDI. I travel BA from LGW or LCY to EDI every Friday. When I go back on Monday mornings I go Easyjet EDI-STN because BA EDI-LCY is such a rip off at that time.

Anyway, any suggestions welcome, as economical as possible of course :-)

Thanks!

Hi lhazelden. For a weekend trip I suspect something like EDI-LHR-HEL-LHR-EDI is going to be the best option and will get you 200 TPs for around £470 (the LHR-HEL return in CE is £369 and I think the cheapest 160 TP route). You may need to overnight at HEL and I would recommend the airport Hilton which is a few minutes walk from the terminal. I would also recomment getting one of the rooms with an in-room sauna - good to sweat out that champagne before bed time!

If you do the HEL route you can also get to try the oneworld lounges in T3 as well - the BA and CX ones are good and the AA is worth a try for some variety and very fast wifi.

Hi

I just booked a flight to Tampa and noticed that my Tier points will be 290 after i come back, did some price checks on BA and found some cheap flights to Jersey that get 20 tier points,

70 Of My tier points expire in November leaving 220 for the year.

Would it be worth the 55 quid for the flight to Jersey to get the 20 Tier points to qualify for bronze status?

How do 70 expire?

All your tier points expire at once.

Hi

They are from a previous flight so my Tier account is

70 Points For Flight To Orlando And Back (Discounted Economy) - OCT 2013
220 Points For Light To Chicago And Then To Tampa (Pre Econ) - OCT 2014

Total 290

Flying to LHR - ORD Flying PE = 90 Tier Points
ORD - TPA US Domestic (No PE Seats) = 10 Tier Points

Return Same in reverse =

So Should be 200 points and not 220 (as my account says I am due when I take the Tampa flight)

But.....As I am paying Premium economy wouldnt I get the US Domestic flight at PE rates ie 30 Points ? So this should be a total of 260 Tier Points (30x2 for US Domestic and 100x2 For UK - USA )?

The US Domestic flight is operated by AA but us a BA Flight and has no PE seating on it.

Hope I make some sense ??

When does your year end? What does your BAEC page say your total is?

BAEC doesn't work on a calendar year - each of us has their own year.

At the end of each personal year, all the TPs disappear at once.

You get TPs for the class you sit in on each individual flight*, which is measured by the booking class on your ticket.

That's why the exact same seat on the same plane can earn business class TPs if booked on a BA flight number (business booking class) but first class TPs on a AA flight number (first booking class).

* excluding IRROPS, etc.

My Tier end is November 8th Where the 70 Points drop off but stay in my lifetime tier points.

The next lot are of tier points will not be earned until October/November this year (220 Points) But I am not sure if this is the correct amount of points I should earn as:

I am flying PE but there are NO PE seats on the Domestic USA flight so should I get PE Rate tier points or just econ rate points for that part of the flight?

If you booked LHR-ORD-TPA and back on one ticket, your ORD-TPA flight will be in economy but you actually get put into the full flex "Y bucket" on that flight (Or the "H bucket" if it's the BA code share, which is the one beneath "Y"). Either way, you get 20 tier points each way for the ORD-TPA sectors, not 10, because you're in the fare bucket normally used for expensive, flexible/refundable economy tickets.

No and no.
Your tier points accrue per individual flight, not per ticket. So just look at each flight individually when you are working it out.

Now more technically, tier point earning depends on which fare bucket you were allocated for the flight (sometimes called the booking class or the selling class). For discount, cheap economy tickets, you get put into a discount fare bucket and get 10 or 35 points depending on sector length. For a premium economy ticket that includes travel on non-premium-economy seats, you are put into the full price economy bucket on those sectors, so 20 or 70 points for any economy class travel as part of a premium-economy ticket.

You only get 100 tier points for premium economy flights over 6000 miles. That's basically to Singapore or Tokyo. Everywhere served by BA in the USA is within 6000 miles so you get 90 tier points instead.

Premium economy short haul (30 tier points) only comes up for a few carriers in Asia.

Something doesn't add up, if your membership year end is Nov 8th then your October 2013 TP's should not be on your account.

Any TP's earnt up to November 8th will be removed. If your booking crosses that date any TP's from flights prior will be zeroed out, any flights after will earn to your next membership year.

Assuming your current TP balance is 70, and your outbound flights earning 110 TP's (90 + 20) are prior to Nov 8th, then you will end the current membership year on 180 TP's. Then your return flights are post Nov 8th and count to your 2014/2015 membership year, leaving you on 110 TP's.

I sense you are confusing Lifetime TPs with yearly TPs.

Since you're currently Blue and shooting for Bronze, Lifetime TPs are pretty irrelevant for you right now.

In a single year, between November 9th and November 8th the following year, you need to collect 300 TPs (and fly BA twice) to get Bronze.

If your year ended November 8th 2013, then flights taken in October 2013 shouldn't appear in your current TP balance... so I'm a bit confused.

You should, I expect, get full economy TPs - 20 per sector, hence 220 TPs overall. You need to check the booking class for each individual flight to be able to tell. It'll be on your ticket.

over and above the comment re expiry and membership year, any BA return flight will give you 20 TPs (not sure if you were aware given you list Jersey as if that was a particularly good one).

You may well find that there are cheaper ones than Jersey (try MAN, LBA, EDI, AMS, etc) though there should be some good HBO fares to JER.

I just ran across another QR 2-for-1 deal, this time from Spain (I checked BCN and MAD)-DOH-BKK return for ~£1112 RT, 560 TP. Again, that's for two people traveling and looks like a 5 day minimum stay. I was glad to find it because I need two weeks in SE Asia, but understand it's not a true TP run. The dates I saw were mid to late October.

And perhaps I should mention it's business (I).
