So there we have it- the final outcome was a chartered 'Aeronexus Corporate' 767: http://www.flightradar24.com/ARN93A/377a472 currently flying the team to Miami. Same plane as used by the rolling stones.

Wonder if the seating would be as comfortable as BA CW?

I believe it's LTN-FLL rather than MIA.

Did England fly BA to Miami yesterday?

Just curious as a photo on the cover of tonight's Standard looked like they were in front of a BA plane.

Would they have chartered a jet for the whole touring party or flown commercial?

There'll be a lot of support staff to go too. Plus journalists. I'll give you a clue, they flew from Luton...

No, it was a charter airline I think - certainly not BA.

I guess a charter is the right choice - it will allow them to fly home early

BA (rightly) didn't fall for doing a deal with the FA.

BA said no - too expensive. Quite right.

Guess they could have found a 767 in the dessert and flown them on that (which is the same type as what they were flown to MIA on).

I'm fairly certain their flight departed from LTN.

I was living in NAS in 1970 when the World Cup-holding England team stopped over there (I guess for a refuelling stop) on their way to Mexico. We went to the airport to see the players - but they remained on the aircraft.

This thread- which was resurrected yesterday (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...no-way-fa.html) gives a lot more details.

Unlike in previous major tournaments, a 767-200 was chartered from Aeronexus Corporate, a South African registered company. The actual 762 used was previously with both BY and Silverjet.

Route flown was LTN-FLL.

Had they flown BA, I could foresee the thread. Two weeks into the World Cup and a new handle CulturedRoy would appear on the BA FT board.

"I've bought 40 I class returns to Rio and now we all need to get home early. We're a mix of Gold, Silver and Nandos card holders. Do you think BA will bend the rules?"
