IAG Capital Markets Day Presentations (Fleet, LHR, LGW etc)

Few bits of news from today's Capital Markets Day:

http://www.iairgroup.com/phoenix.zht...-presentations

- BA will move from T1 to T3 in Summer 2015

- There will be 31 747s by 2018

- Long-haul 767s will be gone by 2017

- Short-haul 767s will be gone by 2018

- LCY short-haul will grow by 3 more Embraers

- BA LGW short-haul will be all Airbus from 2015

- Pre-ordering catering seems to be on the horizon

- The performance of SYD seems to have improved significantly

Great to know. The Middle Easterns should not be let to monopolize the Oz traffic.. Competition is good for us - the clients...

An increase in seat density on short haul Airbus out of LHR and LGW is worrying - that's 2 inches of legroom lost per seat. Unless the seats are going to have thinner seat backs, a net loss of passenger space while passengers continue to grow taller!

Might BA be fitting spacesaver seats with thinner seat backs?

Noticed that too - excellent.

Btw, anyone else wondering why no a318 in fleet charts?

Because they are run by British Airways Limited?

the chart just shows LHR and LGW fleet for longhaul. The LCY a318s appear (briefly!) on slide 21 in the IAG section

One comment piqued my interest - "Right-size First on new aircraft types". Does that mean a smaller F cabin on future planes than we currently have (e.g. could we see a 6-8 seat F cabin on the 787-9) or am I reading too much into that comment?

I might have misheard the presenter (I didn't have the best connection) but I think she said that this meant it would be an 8 seat F Cabin on the 787-9

One of the interesting things about these kind of presentations is that each section is always slightly different in style, showing that they have been produced by different people! :D

I don't like the line about Competitive ground handling overseas and retenders on slide 38. I assume it means outsourcing to third party handlers at more airports.

Perhaps good from a cost perspective, but for example, avaipartner at AMS are horrible. They have a poor knowledge of the BA product and have no sense of pride in the airline, they're just doing a job.

I also wonder what the enhanced disruption process on slide 66 is about. Will we finally be better served during IROPS? A dedicated call team perhaps, or the ability to rebook at a kiosk or with the app a la DL/KL??

Thanks, interesting to hear. I guess that'll make F redemptions tougher to find in the future but on the other hand means they will be smaller and quieter cabins so it is not all bad news.

Pre-ordering catering is a great news. Happy to see SYD is doing well.

I read the presentation and they're going to introduce on board wifi on vueling in 2014. I hope BA and IB will follow soon.
