Issues with recognition on MH system for BA Gold

Not sure if I just have a jonah on this booking for tomorrow but thought I would call today and book seats, lady said 12 pounds per seat per sector so on LHR-KUL-PER that is 72 quid out and 72 quid back

I expected when I said that I was one world emerald this would be waived but you seem to be the same status as if you werent a one world emerald at all

Apparently the option is wait for random seat selection at 10pm tonight when check in opens, then take my chances that we would be seated together ( 3 of us )

They sell themselves as one world too, it just seems like they want to claim it but not deliver on it :D

Free seat selection is not a published OneWorld Emerald benefit.

Some airlines may choose to extend their top tier benefits to OneWorld equivalent status members but that is the decision for each airline. AA is fairly good at this.

OneWorld is an "alliance" but on many things, they are so not joined up. I remember trying to convince Asiana and SQ counter staff that BMI were in Star Alliance. Even then, no one knew the code to use for BMI members.

Does BA allow free selection for all OW member elites or only certain OW member elites like AA?

Exactly, like baggage allowance for oneworld Sapphire/Ruby is not a oneworld benefit. The wording is:

"Access to preferred or pre-reserved seating*
*In accordance with the individual policy of the oneworld member airline operating the flight."

MH seems to not even give their own FF's free seating: http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/hq/e...t/faqs.html#05

You're right. The code was BD and I learned that to guide them through....

I am able to go into the MH MMB whenever I have a booking and can change seats. I use the 5 digit booking code of MH though.

Ok will try mmmb again and see if works this time :D

The lady confirmed the ba number is on the. Booking it wasn't clear if that recognised status though

Ok so I got in and it says itinerary not eligible for modification, please call customer services

Which I did and they said you can only do it online or pay 12 quid per seat per sector :D

At least one thing it has been some laugh this one

I emailed them (MH) and asked for 5D and 5F for a super cheapo Y ticket from HKG-KUL-RGN and they emailed me back with the seat selection as requested. No charge taken or asked for.
