wedding dress travel on BA
We are travelling on BA to Bangkok in April to get married, out in WT back in WT+. Does anyone have any experience in taking a wedding dress on board?
Are the staff good at looking after it?
Any advice by anyone would be great.

Question
Can I take my wedding dress as part of my hand baggage?
Answer
Yes, if the bag/box with your wedding dress inside it fits within our maximum permitted dimensions/allowance for your personal hand baggage:
...
Once on board the aircraft our cabin crew might be able assist in hanging your wedding dress up, however we cannot guarantee this as the flight you are travelling on could be very busy or may be limited wardrobe space available. Therefore, please pack your dress preparing for it to remain in its bag/box for the whole flight duration.
We apologise for any disappointment this may cause you.
If you are unable to fit the dress into a bag that you are taking as hand luggage, it will need to be packed appropriately in a sturdy box/suitcase and checked-in as part of your checked baggage allowance:

In the few times I have flown in my favourite 1A seat, my cabin luggage has share the closet between 1A & 1K with a wedding dress (of a WT pax) a couple of times. The CW closets are not large enough with various jackets of business travellers. There is more space with 2 large closets in F on a 747.
For some reason, some female cabin crew get very excited when they see a wedding dress. Wonder if Pucci does as well?

Why bother taking it on board at all?
When I flew to EZE in economy with BA I just threw my Ł99 wedding suit into the suitcase and it arrived in perfect condition....never even needed pressed. Still fits me as well.

I was worried that it may be delayed or temporarily lost. With my luck it would have done too! It wasn't on BA by the way.
To the OP, you may need to squash it down to regulation size if it's a 'big' dress but generally not a problem to carry it on board.

My friend had a destination wedding over the summer and she had a number of conversations with BA about the dress before we travelled. The flight attendants can hang it in the closest if there's room but depending on which part of the cabin you're flying in that's more discretionary than anything.
In the end she took a hand-luggage sized suitcase to the shop where she bought it and they specifically packed it for travel, which apparently is a fairly common request that they shouldn't charge you for. She took it on-board as part of her hand luggage. On the way back she had it in her dress carrier and thought they'd be able to hang it but apparently the wardrobe was full so she ended up laying it flat in the overhead cabin. It was fine when we got back to England but I think that was more luck than anything and she was quite nervous about it during the flight. See if you can get it specially packed at the shop where you bought but I would avoid trying to do it yourself.
PS Congratulations!

Aircraft wardrobes are generally tiny things and I always worry when I see someone try and shove anything of size in there. My preference would be to check it in to prevent damage from it being forced into the wardrobe. I can appreciate the concern at it going missing, but Id be more worried about the state of the dress when its coming out of the wardrobe at the other side.
On some routes Wedding Dresses are quite common so they all vie for space in the small cupboard spaces. they must be creasetastic when they come out.
If you check it in and it does go missing at least in Thailand you can have a new one knocked up in hours for very reasonable cost

Oh no....I didn't want to draw attention to myself. Just as well as it was a wee bit windy that day.

I certainly wouldn't hang it in the CW or F wardrobe. The wardrobe on the last F flight I was on had several pieces of luggage in it as well as a few jackets and coats and passengers often rooted around in there for stuff they needed during the flight.

My wife took hers on BA when we got married in Vegas. She asked her bridal shop for a specialist hand luggage box to carry it in and then onboard, she explained to the flight attendant about it, and the flight attendant stored it away (we were in CW).
I would highly recommend asking the bridal shop to package the dress for flight and pay that cost.
