The London Borough of Hillingdon has inspected the food preparation areas of the Concorde Room and Galleries First Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5 (run by BaxterStorey on behalf of British Airways) and has indicated under the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme that Food Hygiene and Safety is POOR:
This is an appalling score, putting the lounge in the bottom 10% of all food establishments in England (including burger vans and kebab shops!).
The good news is that other lounges at Heathrow have scored 5 out of 5, including British Airways' Terminal 3 lounge and an unnamed T5 Galleries (albeit both assessed prior to handover to BaxterStorey), Aer Lingus, Cathay Pacific, American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and many others.
Other establishments in Terminal 5 have received the following scores:
Amigos (North & South) - 5 out of 5 (21 February 2013)
Caffe Nero - 2 out of 5 (18 May 2012)
Carluccio's - 5 out of 5 (21 November 2011)
Caviar House - 5 out of 5 (31 May 2013)
Crown Rivers Wetherspoon Pub - 5 out of 5 (21 May 2010)
Five Tuns Pub - 5 out of 5 (18 May 2012)
Giraffe - 5 out of 5 (07 February 2013)
Gordon Ramsay Plane Food - 2 out of 5 (31 May 2013)
itsu - 4 out of 5 (16 November 2011)
Marks and Spencer - 5 out of 5 (08 May 2010)
Pret a Manger - 4 out of 5 (24 January 2013)
V Bar - 5 out of 5 (07 February 2013)

BaxterStorey and T5 lounges: "Improvement necessary" food hygiene rating
New thread as I think a FSA score like this is more than just gloop and no crisps. Actually worse, improvement necessary. Also just appeared on the Cathay forum!!!

Good grief! Even my mouse infected rugby club with Victorian infrastructure got 3. There again no one has died of eating pies there.
Correction: we got 4.

As an addition Baxterstorey score a 5 (rather than GF and CCR's miserable 2) at Cisco & Discovery TV commercial contracts.

how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
the condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities
how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe
It's properly because of the urine biscuits, the buffet no one touches and the cakes

Oh dear
Could we have someone from BA or BS explain what caused the issue (was it something that was affecting the safety of the food, or was it just the potential due to poor management) to save us the bother of requesting the full report from Hillingdon Environmental Health?

It's interesting to look at other Heathrow outlets.
VS, CX, AA get 5 stars. The BA staff canteen does too, as does the T3 BA lounge (not sure which one).

I am almost certain that when my rugby club got its certificate we were pretty much instructed to place it somewhere visible to all pie consumers. I shall check next week if I can find the T5 one!

There is effectively only one BA lounge in T3, the kitchen is shared between Flounge and GC.

Looking in to this in some more detail, it looks like BA are really suffering from the most important areas - hygiene and safety:
This poor score means there is "major non-compliance with statutory obligations" in areas such as food handling practices and procedures & temperature control.
Thanks iThink for bringing this safety issue to our attention, rather than burying it in the thread discussing the different food options under BS. CWS - if you're not in Wales, there's no obligation for companies to display their score on their premises (though they should now advertise they are twice as good as BA's dining room for First Class passengers )

Baxter and food hygiene, improvement needed!
That's a shocker. Don't think I have even seen a 2 rating anywhere else.
