LHR-SIN upgrade options

Hi folks,

Apologies for a 'upgrade options' thread.

2 of us are flying out LHR-SIN on the BA11 on 27/09 and back on BA12 on 10/10.

We're booked into WT both ways as the WTP and CW fares were extortionate and there's no premium award availability.

I guess my only reasonable cost option to get into CW (I'm happy to spend real money, not just crazy money!) would be a POUG or Airport upgrade? A couple of questions in this regard:

1. I am presuming there's no indication at this stage as to whether POUG or Airport upgrade is likely to be offered?

2. If I am offered POUG to WTP in the days before the flights (not offered yet) and CW award availability becomes available, can I then upgrade WTP -> CW using UuA?

3. Are Airport upgrades offered to CW from WT, or just one cabin?

Thanks

LF

I have seen offers to AUP more than one cabin but it's pretty rare. Most of the time when I've asked I've been told it's simply not possible to do it, so I think you will be lucky if you get the chance.

I've never seen an AUP of more than one cabin in the UK, have plenty of times in outstations though

You cannot POUG and then upgrade with Avios.

Best guess:

Step 1: POUG to WT+, GBP 400 per pax each way
Step 2: AUP to CW, GBP 700 per pax each way

Total cost: GBP 1,100 per passenger each way, or GBP 4,400 total. No guarantee of travelling in business class.

Alternative 1: Throw away the BA ticket and buy business class tickets on CX for GBP 2,500 each, GBP 5,000 total and slightly more than the POUG+AUP option but confirmed business class.

Alternative 2: Throw away the BA ticket and buy business class tickets on China Eastern for GBP 1,800 each, GBP 3,600 total and slightly less than the POUG+AUP option whilst still confirmed business class.

Either way you look at it travelling in J at short notice seems expensive.

Recommendation: if you are willing to pay GBP 4,400 for the upgrade, just buy a new ticket on China Eastern instead. It is cheaper and will provide peace of mind.

Although it has been known to happen that a POUG can put you into an upgradable bucket. Not supposed to, so don't count on it, but have seen it happen.

A POUG will get you the opportunity of a cheaper AUG (if available) though
