They already have - that's where Aus BT got it.

As regards your round the world question:

I hope the next announcement is :
Double Avios when you fly with Qatar between 15/11 and 15/1 ? :)

Raffles Sep 9, 2013 3:54 am

The big question should be:

Can Avios collectors redeem early, from October 1st, given that Qatar Privilege Miles collectors will be able to book BA rewards from October 1st?

Would be nice to have a go at Qatar's award availability ahead of all the other oneworld partners.

Tafflyer Sep 9, 2013 4:11 am

Great news. Congratulations all round for making this happen in record speed. That IT task must have been (probably still is) massive.

Now, what should we do with those 50,000 QR miles we have lying around which were about to expire.

Wozza2404 Sep 9, 2013 4:13 am

QR's Platinum tier looks decent. Self and 2 guests for lounge access, AND 5 extra lounge passes per year.

Take note, BA.

I think the period will be 30/10 to 30/12.

You are right. I thought double miles on MH were offered from day 1. Much better if they follow the same scheme because it would cover the entire Christmas holiday period.

It's also far harder to achieve than BA Gold...

Ok, compare it to GGL. Those passes are still a huge benefit.

Makes you wish BA had kept Open Doors for Golds, eh?

Tier Points and Avios on Qatar?

As announced today Qatar is to join Oneworld from the 30th October. If I Book flights now for December with Qatar will I be eligible for Tier points etc?

Thanks

Genius1 Sep 9, 2013 1:05 pm

Yes, theoretically flights flown once they are oneworld will earn TPs and Avios.

d3vski Sep 9, 2013 1:38 pm

Although not mentioned, they normally have a two month window at the beginning where you earn double avois on new members.

ironmouse Sep 9, 2013 1:51 pm

that being the case, would that mean BAEC flying on a QR flight would get double Avios?

Discus Sep 9, 2013 2:25 pm

Earningchart available:
http://www.britishairways.com/travel...s/public/en_no

ESFLYER95 Sep 9, 2013 2:43 pm

The earning chart though is just for partners and not one world members right? This should change to award tier points as well when they join one world?

themapelligroup Sep 9, 2013 4:22 pm

You will definitely be able to earn Avios and Tier Ponts.

Wozza2404 Sep 10, 2013 1:40 am

This is going to provide some interesting TP runs on intra GCC routes. AUH-DMM via DOH is usually available very cheaply in J on QR. No doubt there will be plenty of other similar routes.

NA-Flyer Sep 10, 2013 1:58 am

Can I redeem my avios right now for a QR flight in FEB 2013?

On one of the press releases a start date of 1st October was stated for Avios redemptions.

QR has stated that Privilege Club members can redeem on BA as and from 1 October. BA has not yet said when BAEC members can redeem on QR - though this will definitely happen from October 30.

As these legs would be under 2000 miles they'd only get 40 TP for each leg. So unless you're based over there you'd be better off heading to the US and taking advantage of AA domestic F.

I was thinking of my own personal circumstances. I'm in the GCC a lot, so switching direct flights on EY to 2-leg QR flights might be a great way to pick up 160TPs on flights I'd have normally received nothing for (from BAEC).

GGL and Lifetime Gold, make way for the Wozza!!! :D ^

Hannibal Lecter Sep 10, 2013 6:14 am

To SIN, HKG, BKK etc. people not based in the UK will earn 4x 140 TPs flying with QR rather than 2x 40+2x 140 with BA.
And best of all, don't have to put up with Afternoon Tea on the feeder flight :)

I Believe QR has 787s from most European destinations now.

Very few*, I would have thought. Some European destinations are still A320/A321 destinations!

*Shamelessly stolen from a QR forum thread:

Current Boeing 787 Routes:
Doha – Bangalore 1 daily
Doha – Copenhagen 1 daily
Doha – Delhi 1 daily
Doha – London Heathrow 1 daily
Doha – Frankfurt 2 daily
$ Doha – Jeddah 5 – 7 weekly (Service extended until 01NOV13)
Doha – Munich 1 daily (2 daily from 01JUN13)
Doha – Oslo 1 daily
$ Doha – Riyadh 4 – 5 weekly (Service extended until 01NOV13)
Doha – Stockholm 1 daily
Doha – Zurich 1 daily

European destinations without 787:
Athens, Barcelona, Belgrade, Berlin, Bucharest, Budapest, Brussels, Geneva, Istanbul, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Sofia, Venice, Vienna, Warsaw, Zagreb

Those I care about, nothing else matters :p
+ London and Paris will get the A380 with First Class

Behindthecurtain Sep 10, 2013 7:46 am

Well being in Moscow I get a shed load of alternates and its over 2000M to DOH from DME, so its usually 140+140 wherever I go and some crazy cheap prices... though if I want uber cheap, I need to wait for Shrilanken..

Slow and steady wins the LPGS...

QR 2 class hopper flights are classed as Economy and First. I wonder if this will be another AA situation where you get 60TPs rather than 40?

They're also about half the price of BA to the Far East.

American has posted on Facebook that you can redeem AA miles on Qatar from 23 September!

Avios access may therefore happen on 1 October.

Quite. Priced up a BKK trip yesterday for November. £1800 return in J with a 1 week stop in DOH. 560 TPs, too.
