Cancelling book with money and upgrade with avios

I bought a ticket which was book with money and upgrade with avos as business class flights to st lucia was 2500+. I got it for 1100+25000avios per person.

I have noticed that the price has gone down for flights to st lucia and is 1700ish for business class now, making it attractive to pay for business and upgrade with avios to first (since it is out honeymoon).

Is it possible to cancel a book with money upgrade with avos without a penalty?

Also when I check the price and avos of doing a business class flight with an upgrade, I can see that there are seats left but i press continue it says 'ERROR CANNOT FIND PRICE OPTION FOR DISTANCE BASED PRICING' Any idea what this is?

I suspect that the original flight was non-refundable, unless it was a full-fare ticket. The question is "does the Avios upgrade convert the whole ticket into a refundable one?". I believe that the answer is no.

The underlying WTP fare conditions would apply I believe.

Indeed Nux, and may be possible to change the fare to a business class one - enabling you to upgrade with miles to F.

Give BA a call.

When you booked your original WT+ tickets did you select "Lowest Price" or "Flexible Conditions"? If it was lowest price (and from the fare I suspect that may well be the case sice a random date WT+ now comes back with 1200 each way for a flexible fare) then it is unlikely that you can cancel for a refund, but as others have said, phoning is your best option.

I don't know what I picked. I have gone through the same process I used before. First time I did it, it went to flexible by default. Second time lowerst price. My guess is that it will be lowest price given the price.

However, I will still try phoning to see what can be done.

To be clear, you do not want to cancel for a refund (which is not allowed on most cheap WT+ fares) but to change it to a higher class (business) - which is allowed on many fares.

Keep in mind you do have to pay a penalty fee for changing from WTP to business PLUS any difference in fare between the two. You T&C will tell you what this penalty fee is. When I did this last, the fee was $500 (US-based) .

So your new cost will be the 600 GBP PLUS the fee (I think around 250-300 GBP).

I believe the change fee will be 100 per person, but there's a few funny fares where it's different.

Phoned and it was 100 charge per person + fare difference. I was more than happy with that. An extra 800 per person and 25000 avios per person upgrade from club world to first.
