No IFE in First

Flew from LHR to LAX on Thursday. Despite several attempts the crew were unable to get the IFE working. It was handled very well by the crew and the captain came around and apologised and we were handed forms to complete.

I've received an email offering 20k Avios. Is this reasonable as it's an 11 hour day flight?

Seems very reasonable.

There is a compensation thread on here some where.

Do you think it seems not so?

I notice that a lot of passengers bring their own media too... which doesn't help if you havn't I know.... in which case 11 hrs without anything I would imagine would drag....

Unfortunately I don't have an iPad.

I've read of people receiving that amount for flight to JFK. I guess it's a set amount regardless of the length of the flight

Yep, seems odd, doesn't it... a short overnight flight where you might have 4-6 hrs sleep gets the same as an 11 + hour day flight.

I hope you had the ipad with you as 11 hours without some form of entertainment must have made it a very long flight indeed. Hopefully the 20,000 avios will ease the pain

Happened to me last week on board G-CIVA in F. Their offer was £100 for a 9 hour flight.

I think the Avios compensation in this case should be 25,000 which is obviously enough to book J and UuA for any future flights to/from the West Coast.

I think it should fit in with the length of the flight. NY 20 k and so on. We had IFE problems and other issues on the way back from MRU a couple of years ago in F and were given 20k each.

This would allow the OP (assuming there is availability) to enjoy the full benefits of F at some point in the future. Just my own personal opinion as I always use the IFE which is important to me and given the length of the flight I think 25k would be fairer and I would be pushing for that. YMMV.

I don't think 20000 Avios is generous compensation. I'd be hoping for more like 30-40k.

For comparison, I received 20k by means of an apology when I emailed to say "the F cabin was quite tatty and my IFE had the occasional freak-out (but no big deal)"

I'd politely push your case. You've nothing to lose.

I think I'd happily take £100 or 20,000 Avios not to watch the IFE as I don't generally watch it anyway
