Additional long-haul Boeing 777 for Gatwick [increase to Caribbean frequencies, S14]
Hi All for info,
Gatwick have been boosted by news of a new Boeing 777 being added to it's long-haul fleet.
The new aircraft, which will bring the total of long-haul aircraft at the airport to 10, will be introduced at the end of March 2014 in preparation for the summer period. Customers flying from Gatwick will benefit from an extra three flights a week to Orlando, and additional weekly flights to Kingston, St Lucia, and Antigua onto Punta Cana.

The increase in MCO by 3 flights a week is, I think, a repeat of this year's seasonal change, so it seems the new aircraft will provide more capacity for another route?

Longhaul seems to be keeping the wolf from Gatwick's door.
It's a shame BA can't spare a few 787s there, as they would be perfect for gatwick's long and thin leisure routes, and very reliable and efficient, too.
Perhaps there's scope for repositioning some of the longhaul 767s there before they are finally pensioned off....

I'd rather the falling apart planes weren't added to LGW's already falling apart planes.
Hopefully the A319/20's that are rumoured to be on their way to replace the 737's is actually true, have a trip to FAO coming up next month and have fingers crossed there are no tech issues like there have been every single other time I've been supposed to fly one. Especially now my inbound flight has been changed from an A319 as well...

Cabin Managers are only qualified on 737/777 so do have a spare aircraft qualification, not sure about Gatwick-based CSMs.
