How late to cancel

How late can i cancel flights?

I have two reward tickets and two paid tickets to Sydney this evening on Ba15 and my son may have just broken his arm.

24 hours for Avios. A note from a doctor might get around that.

For the paid tickets it depends on the conditions of the fare you have booked. If flexible you can cancel any time before the flight. Otherwise not.

BA may show themselves lenient if you prove to them that a medical reason prevented you from flying, but this is not guaranteed. I have had no luck with this route the one time I tried it.

My insurance said they would pay up in a similar situation once, so hopefully you have travel insurance in place that may cover it (but they said I would actually have to cancel - a no show would mean no pay out)

Either that or a LOT of painkillers for your son for the next 36 hours!

300k avios might be at risk

Paid flights are 'T' selling class

I have insurance, ironically taken out just before the accident

T class would be discount WTP, so you will have to plead your case and hope for a nice agent. May be worth calling them up a few times, hanging up and calling back if you don't get the answer you are hoping for.

Perhaps also ask your insurer what they would be prepared to do about the avios bookings?

Ok, so my son has a fracture on his wrist, arm is not broken.

Called BA and they said that as long as the cast is an open plaster - we are good to go.

So it looks like we are AU bound.

many thanks for all the helpful advice, it's very much appreciated.

Good to hear that you are still able to go dc2447 ^

I hope your son isn't in too much pain. It only lasted a day or two when I fractured (both) wrists as a child.

Glad to hear that, dc2447 ^

Hope your son's fracture heals soon and that he isn't in too much pain on the way.
