I think the problem is they don't have much by way of a kitchen.
At least the drinks selection is good though.

No matter... bacon is not a liquid so I guess I can fry a few rashers at home and ask them to put them in a bun with brown sauce.

Just a reassuring update on the vitally important subject of bacon sandwiches. The good lady didn't flinch when I asked for one, just asked if I wanted white or brown, plain or toasted. And it was ready in no time at all; very delicious too with freshly and perfectly fried bacon. Maybe they are making it for the business lounge and it's not on the GFL breakfast menu because they just assume we prefer smoked salmon?

Also, plenty of vintage Taittinger - haven't been here for a few months so never experienced the famine under Castelnau hegemony at LGW.

Not sure if there is a more recent thread on LGW BA First Lounge, but I was there yesterday morning and noted a marked improvement on what was on offer, with more hote items to order than I remember from my last visit (late last year). The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was excellent with an abundance of salmon. The buffet was well stocked and the ladies were all very attentive (but then they always are at LGW, its just they have a lot less to work with than their counterparts at LHR).

The First lounge at LGW will never match up to the one at LHR in size or variety of offering, but it certainly did the job well enough yesterday and I am looking forward to my next visit in March.

The LGW FLounge menu has had a modest uplift in waiter ordered catering. Details in thread 1.

I have been in the LGW F lounge a few times in the last few weeks and I have been enjoying the almost bottomless availability of Chateau Batailley 2006 Pauillac.

Just thought I would add some pics from two weeks ago. Have to say quite a pleasant lounge although small. Lovely staff and mixing items from the hot menu not an issue. They seem to be used to it.

Thanks for the photographs Dellas. They remind of many an hour spend there. It's good to see that there's still some Chateau Batailley remaining despite of the best efforts of Bahrain Lad

I was in there yesterday afternoon (most of it, due to a connection from HKG) and found the food fine - decent selection of sandwiches, cold meats, salad and cheese and they even had a tray of smoked salmon which you don't even get at LHR!

Disappointed there was no French red wine, only new world stuff, so I went into the kitchen and they managed to find a nice bottle of Chateau Crabitey 2009 which I attacked.

Indeed I found the smoked salmon acceptable washed down with some Tattinger Rose. ^

Disappointing to see they're still having problems with the kitchen. I was in there a week last Friday and they couldn't offer hot options. They were giving out vouchers at the front desk (on request) to purchase something in the terminal. Don't know the value of the voucher.

The conspiracy theorist in me sees this as a pointer towards a decline, to the point they simply won't do hot options upon request. But I hope I'm wrong.

The regular staff there are just as mystified as everyone else. It seems to be an upgrade in the. facilities, but they cannot understand why it's taking so long. They are also quite stressed about it since they feel unable to provide the service level they very much want to provide. So please be upbeat and sympathetic to the staff, it's driving them nuts.

If it's an upgrade to allow for a better hot food offering then I'm sure it's worth the disturbance.

The old breakfast menu is back and passengers around me are enjoying their bacon baguettes.
