Are BKK flights really empty?

Hello.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm booked onto the BA9/BA10 in late May. Currently there are only about 12 pax in CW on both flights.

I thought it odd the cabins are so empty with just a month to go.

So is it like BOM, where it looks empty until T-24 when all the non-status pax show up? Or are these routes generally quiet?

BKK is very busy during winter months and quieter in summer. Loads will go up as J pax book at short notice too.

Just because a seat isn't reserved, doesn't mean there aren't pax who are ready to fill them.

There are some routes which attract status passengers (HKG and SIN) but BKK is not in that category. When I've flown on that sector CW is generally well to full loaded.

Also, some status passengers (including this one) can be slovenly in getting round to seat selection.

I've only flown the route once, in J last summer, but it was prime gap yah travellah season and every seat on the whole plane was full - including two cabin crew seats - and THIRTY THREE people had to be moved onto EVA Air and Thai flights because our plane was so oversold. I don't know whether this is a high or low biz route, but tourist travel at that time, particular in Y, was apparently very high. I'm doing the same this Summer, and thought I'd hide from the masses in a quieter space at the front of the plane....

That far out, those figures on their own tell you almost nothing about loads. The flight could already be well overbooked, given how many weeks there still are before the flight.

Indeed. On that route it is quite common to be selling seats like that but for the flight to go out full. Doubt the yield is great though..

I would be very surprised if they go out full. Low season, no school holidays, and BA have cut one weekly rotation. Also if all Y classes show 9 that is usually a good indicator.

I think BKK has become a lot more variable since the SYD extension finished.

It was viable alternative to the SYD via SIN flights, but now there is no continuation, it now relies on more terminating traffic which is more seasonal.

I guess when the 787's come in BA can swap aircraft depending on the season providing they don't melt or burn anymore...

Maybe even 777-300. Don't suppose a 747 is going to be that cost effective on such a long sector these days, just like SYD.
