LHR to LGW Transfer a Good Idea?
I will be flying Tampa to Hyderabad via London. I can make the journey in 2 segments which will require changing airports in London. I will have about 4 or 5 hours in London to accomplish this.
Alternatively, I can make the trip in 3 segments, making an extra connection in Miami.
I hold a US passport, and all segments will be in J (so fast track at immigration is available I think).
Which would you suggest?

With that amount of time, take the National Express coach transfer... Cheapest option, direct and takes about 45 minutes once you are on your way...

You may not have as much time as you think if you have a slight delay coming into LGW, any delays in luggage, wait for a coach, get stuck on the M25 and M4.
You have to do 4 airports anyway whichever way you choose.
I'd much rather change planes in Miami than airports around London.

There are risks with connecting in MIA too, and it is probably my least favourite US airport, but on balance I would go with the MIA option as well.

Just be sure everything is on one ticket so that you're covered in the event of any delays and missed connections.

However I would probably go for the plane option, especially as for BAEC members it probably means more TPs.

Last Sunday we did an LGW-LHR transfer, with luggage, by taxi. By the time we finished it needed nearly 3 hours - and we weren't loitering around. Midweek, traffic on the M25 would be an additional issue.
Avoid LHR/LGW transfers if possible.

I live on the I-4 corridor between TPA and MCO; so flights into LGW work best for me but I would NEVER fly into LGW for an onward flight from LHR. I've flown via MIA and JFK: specifically to avoid the LGW-LHR transfer with my bags.
