Is there a program I could download to work out the best price combination for this trip?

Or is it just a case of looking up different combinations on BA or AA?

Many thanks
Did you look at the current BA Sale?
Perhaps starting from LHR via JFK to LAS and back? Or maybe even from NCL.
LHR-JFK 140TP
JFK-LAS 210TP (if booked into AA First, if in BA J it's 140).

NCL or LON to HNL is about 2800 over easter. FCO to HNL is about 1800. You would easily get your 600 TPs on either route.

Thanks for the replies. I can only find flights from Newcastle to Hononlulu going out 29/3/2012 coming back 12/4/2012 for 3 people at 11619 - phoned BA to see if they could find something cheaper and they said no.
BA said if I did a stopover in New York they said the price would go up to 4795 each. From Amsterdam it is 8225 euros and from FCO it is 7018 euros return.
Could I fly to Rome a couple of days earlier to obtain the cheaper flights but leave the last flight from LHR to Rome and pay for a one way ticket to Newcastle?

Any other suggestions welcome.

I was hoping to have a few stops in USA and increase my Tier Points but not at the prices quoted.

The ex-eu sale fare doesn't allow a stopover, so to use that sale fare you have to do an open jaw; fly from Europe to NYC on the sale fare, fly NYC to HNL, and then fly back from HNL to Europe on the sale fare.

e.g.
Mar 29: ATH-LHR-JFK 220 TPs - I7SALE
Apr 4: EWR-ORD-LAX-HNL on AA F 330 TPs - KUPA14HN
Apr 12: HNL-LAX-LHR-BRU 350/390 TPs (depending whether you skip the final LHR-BRU) - I7SALE
That prices out at 2200 p/p for 900/940 TPs.

By the way, did you really want a stopover, or would 24 hours be enough in New York? That would cut down the cost by quite a bit.

Hi angatol

Thanks for the reply. 24 hours in New York would be good. What are the references KUPA14HN ? Which is the best / closest EU airport to start from ? Amsterdam?

Many thanks

If you're not going to stay in any one city more than 24 hours, then it isn't a stopover, it's just a transfer. Here's an example itinerary:

And here's how I searched for it at http://matrix.itasoftare.com/

You've got to admire angatol for finding you a 23h50min transfer in NYC

Wonder how much the price jumps if that transfer were actually 15 mins longer and therefore not a transfer but a stopover...

I humbly apologise. The OP asked for 24 hours in NYC:

Very impressive but any chance you could explain what some of the entries mean? *O for example..

I am trying to do the HNL run in August for a family holiday the wife and kids will do the straight BRU LHR LAX HNL OR DFW HNL and i can get ITA to price that up.

I cant get a price to fly LCY JFK DFW HNL however as DFW HNL offers only M class. Can anyone explain why?

From reading the forum i would have thought that BRU MAD LCY JFK DFW HNL would have been possible within the rules. Would want night stop LON and DFW.

Coming back HNL DFW LHR BRU is fine and that seems to price up ok.

Grateful for any help.

Very impressive and very useful to see how the ITA codes should be used - I take it when progressing to actually booking it's a case of feeding the flights and fare class one by one to the BA phone agent? Or is there a better way of doing it?

Guys, a little tip that may or may not help... I always find that flying out of BRU and back into LUX on the HNL or OGG TP routes knocks a bit more off the overall fare.

+ means one or more flights
* means zero or more flights
BA means marketed or operated by BA
O:BA means BA metal (don't want to accidentally do the TATL on AA!)

Matrix has millions of possible combinations to explore, which can be cut down if certain restrictions are applied. So "alliance oneworld" will wipe out all the airlines outside of that alliance from the search space and "f ..I7SALE" will wipe out any combinations that can't be applied to that fare basis. Some of the restrictions aren't primary (I think that's the term they use), which means they only filter the search results and don't do anything to make the search faster. To get the 24 hour connection I specified a segment LON-JFK-LAX with "minconnect 1435" (23:55) forcing the JFK layover to be as near to 24 hours as possible and also specifying I7SALE which doesn't allow stopovers.

This works for me:
BRU :: LON BA1-4 JFK DFW / alliance oneworld;f ..I7SALE

You might be able to book it on aa.com, but not ba.com if you want the long AA F flights to give 210 TPs. To specify the routing, you can sometimes leave out a transit airport if it's the most logical choice that aa.com would choose. You could also try hipmunk.com which you can feed the routing somewhat and it can then pass it to somewhere like Orbitz to book.

If you can't do it online, then call BA and feed them the flight numbers or use a TA.
