i Preface
This wikipost (and thread) exist because BA introduced a new route in Dec. 2012 from London Heathrow (LHR) Terminal 5 (T5) to Incheon International Airport (ICN), Seoul, Korea. This wikipost links to the latest, most relevant information we have collected for FTers flying or considering this route. The extensive nature of the thread is due to 80 FTers having taken up the special fare conditions during the first month.

Currently there is a glitch and the wikipost can only be edited by a moderator or ambassador - to update this thread, please send a PM to a moderator or ambassador. This wikipost can be edited by anyone, and therefore is superior to a traditional 'first post' as anyone can post new, corrected or updated information and link to that post in this wikipost thereby ensuring no single person has to maintain the first post and that information is always up to date. The suggested procedure is to go to the existing linked post and quote that post (if correcting or updating information) and then make the corrections / updates and remove the [QUOTE] tags. Then come back to this wikipost and link to the post you have just made. For new information, simply post the new information and link to it here. Please check that the information you post is indeed new or correct before posting. Thanks, we hope you find this thread of use and interest.

How to Edit this Wikipost Guide

We hope it is of use not only to those going during the introductory month but also evolves later on when the route is mature.

So pack and dress warm.

Mate, I won't need to...that jacket is a babe magnet...PSY eat your heart out!

Actually...it is not going to be cold enough for that jacket...I can't wear it unless the temps get below -20 C then it is perfect.

On another note:

Anyone that still wishes to join us and has a whack of Avios they are willing to burn...you can still join the second weekend invasion crew in F if you wanted to:

F reward seat availability for Dec from LHR to ICN.

and the dates that are available back:

So, come and join the craziness...when was the last time you tried to eat a live octopus? Start your New Years resolutions early...

I've checked Club World reward seat availability and it is: 0 for the entire month and the beginning of Jan.....so well done everyone, we seem to have cleared out all the Club seats!

"North Korea is to launch a long-range rocket between 10 and 22 December, its official news agency says."

I sincerely hope this will not put a damper on proceedings …

Doh! Typical isn't it...shame. (unless you are willing to burn Avios to travel F and get the client to pay the associated Fees...in which case you could get out the 9th and back later...)

Updating this Wikipost Guide

The Process

The real benefit of the wikipost feature on FT is that it allows everyone to edit this ‘first post’ and keep the post relevant without relying on any one person to maintain it. ^

So, if you see something that is missing in a post linked to the wikipost or you wish to create a new category that should be listed in the wikipost and link it to a post you will create…how does one do that?

First, we’ll assume you wish to edit a post that links to the wikipost but you are not the author of the current post being linked.

So, find the post in question by clicking on the link in the wikipost…once you have the post on the screen…scroll to the bottom of that post and click on the ‘quote’ button

Post that needs correcting or editing

You will then see this type of window and be able to edit the text or add the bits you wish to add (assuming you are logged in…otherwise you will be asked to log in):

The edit window (same as reply to post window)

Once you are done editing the post, make sure you delete the QUOTE info including the brackets [] at the beginning and the [/QUOTE] bit at the end of the text in that window.

Remove QUOTE bits at beginning and end of text before clicking submit post

One recommendation I would give is to NOT use a title as this will not be something that can be edited later by you or anyone else unfortunately…(at least not without the help of a Moderator).

Once you have clicked on the ‘Submit Reply’ button it will post just like a normal post with the now correct information…

So now to link it to the wikipost…

Go to the post (you have just created) and click on the upper right hand post number:

Click on post number to open in a new browser tab

This will open the post in a new tab of your browser like this:

Single post viewed in new tab with needed info in address bar

At the top of the browser window you will see the web address of this post…it looks like this:

Now, you need to highlight this portion of the text in that address (it is the post info we need):

Then copy that bit and then go to the wikipost and click on the edit button in the bottom right:

The wikipost will look something like this in the edit window (of this wikipost):

Now go to the relevant bit (for this example we’ll use the ‘Weather’ line…

Now edit this from:

[post=existing number(8 digits)]15 Weather[/post]

to the new post number by editing portion:

[post=(paste your post number here)]Text you wish to have appear to the forum users[/post]

You may need to remove any spaces between the equals sign and post number as well as after the post number and the bracket.

Then once you click save changes the wikipost will be updated and link to the new post you created which will open in the same window instead of a new tab (which is what happens when you use the ‘normal’ link button [url]…

If you wish to create a new post and link it to the wikipost the steps are the same except you obviously just create the new post in the thread just like you would normally reply and then click on the post number and follow the steps as above once the post opens in a new tab.

I hope this is clear and ensures that everyone now knows how they can edit the wikipost and keep the thread relevant. @:-)

I am not sure if anyone can edit the wikipost just yet...but this is meant to be a feature in future...if you can't edit the wikipost, simply PM me and I will be happy to do it in the meantime. Once you/everyone can edit the wikipost, if you have problems please contact a moderator for help.

EDIT: A big thank you to CreativeBill for helping me with this and for providing many of the screenshots you see...^

Thanks.

Well, I did send a tweet to ask for fireworks to welcome us in on the final descent...but didn't have that in mind!

Just browsing about and thought I'd post these for anyone interested and to get you in the mood. T8191 will be one of few here who can understand all the ATC speak which I don't really understand in full.

Arrival - most of the noise is the Airbus telling you what's happening [height agl]. Wow, that's some rubber deposit on the runway!

Departure - nothing significant, just ATC confirming the departure procedure. Captain's brief neat, if you understand the chat. Nice to see a flight engineer on the old 747-100 whacking the switches

Too much superfluous chat, though. "Good Morning" etc is nice, but at a busy airport/airfield there's no time for that [email protected]

And … Bon Yoyage to the first wave.

11 Things to do in Seoul

Again, we will never be able to cover everything that is possible in Seoul with this single post, however, as a starting point we hope this will give some ideas as to what the main attractions are and give you a basis to explore other options.

If you happen to know of other things to do and wish to add them please do let us know or modify this post by following the 'edit the wikipost guide' instructions.

Things to do while in Seoul

The main thing many wish to do is to visit the DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) between North and South Korea. Please be aware that this is generally only possible if you have a full day available and you should not plan it on the day you arrive (at least via a BA flight) as the starting times for the tours is before the plane arrives! If time is tight, consider visiting the War Memorial (which is a museum about the war and a reasonable alternative).

DMZ Tour Info

It seems the best company doing DMZ tours based on reviews from tripadvisor is the following company:

http://www.tourdmz.com/english/07gui...p?tag=Image1_5

If you are interested, email
[email protected] and mention what tour and dates you would like to do. They reply within a few hours, letting you know if spaces were available for that date, and then, if you are in agreement, send them full name, passport number, and telephone number. They should confirm a short time later. One FTer has posted the confirmation email and conditions...see this post for details

Some points to consider for the DMZ tour day:

On the website the above company states a vague 3 day booking period which we have found out means you have to have at least 3 days notice before your tour to book, it does NOT mean you can only book a maximum of three days out or less.

You are apparently allowed to take photographs during the DMZ tour but only in certain sections. Do make sure that you are suitably dressed (no holes in jeans) as the North apparently uses photographs of poorly dressed westerners for propaganda we are told.

War Memorial aka War Museum

Other Sites to see or things to do

nme7 (an FT Seoul native) has kindly provided some walking tours you can do in Seoul in his post here:

Seoul museum of History.

COEX Aquarium

Seoul is a shoppers paradise…see the wikipost for the link to shopping for those options.

check this link out for further ideas:

http://wikitravel.org/en/Seoul

it is officially 'Visit Korea year' and this website has many ideas and offers for those interested.

http://english.visitkoreayear.com/english/main.asp

BA Highlife has published this article about Seoul for ideas as well...Where to Party, Shop and Relax in Seoul article
The Royal Palace is definitely worth seeing and there is a popular walk along the city centre river.

If you are feeling particularly (or peculiarly) adventurous, or just jetlagged and can't sleep, you can go to the fish market in the early hours (or any time for that matter as it is open 24 hours a day) and watch them bartering for the fresh catch. (rated # 2 on things to do in Seoul on Trip Advisor!)

http://www.seouleats.com/2008/12/the...n-fish-market/

http://www.susansijang.co.kr/index/index.do

Food tours:

http://www.ongofood.com

You have your own guide that takes you around markets, street food stalls and restaurants and explains what everything is and obviously sample the wares...full day tours or shorter versions are available.

Other 'museums':

For those with a sense of (toilet) humour…this sounds (excuse the pun) a blast…

Toilet theme park

For those with an amorous bend…you may wish to visit this place…(discretion advised):

Loveland (viewer discretion advised)

Please do let us know about anything else you feel should be on this list….or any corrections. Thanks.

As someone once said..."my work here is done"

All topics I could think of are now linked and 'complete' with the latest information from this thread and a bit of research on the web.

From this point on, I will generally only update the lounge and BA17 / BA 18 DO's as well as any significant weather news as required and of course keep the fires stoked on the ol' anticipation meter

So for those off tomorrow on our first covert operation to scope out the city...

The weather is going to be quite similar to the UK when you arrive in Seoul on Monday morning and during the day (high of 6 C, rainy and a bit of wind) but Monday night things will be very cold indeed with quite windy conditions and -13 C in that windchill so dress up warm and get that food and alcohol in you...

Hope you have a great trip...can't check the seat maps any longer as it is past the T-24 deadline but the fare loads are similar to what I posted earlier this morning...4 seats in F still, a few in CW, a few in WT+ and open down the back.

Cheers.

If anyone sees any glaring omissions or knows of additional items that need to be added (or a new topic) then please do post it or contact me! Thanks.

OMG: I nearly forgot...take lots of pictures of the clouds and weather phenomenon...and post them in the BA Cloud thread...
