Which Y is better: 777 or 747 (LHR-ORD vs LHR-LAX)

Hello,

I'm looking at two different BA flights.

One is from LHR-LAX. One is from LHR-ORD.

One is a 747 and the other is a 777. My final destination is SFO.

The prices/times are almost the same.

Alas, I can only afford Y - but I'm OW Sapphire so I can pick seats I guess.

Are the Y's significantly different between them?

Which would you pick?

Simple answer is that yes there will be a difference, the 777 on the LAX route is a 773 with the new Y cabin and IFE.

If your final destination is SFO you why not fly LHR-SFO ?

Oooh... sounds like the 777 (which is the ORD one, not LAX one) is a better bet.

The reason I can't do LHR-SFO direct is because my journey starts in DXB. I'd have to take a 0255 flight DXB-LHR for the non-stop LHR-SFO. Which then has a 4 hour layover. I'm not compatible with that time.

I'm booking this on AA.com, and system won't let me book a flight that does not involve an AA flight. Also, even on the BA site, I can't get it to spit out the non-stop from LHR-SFO for some reason. Is it because I'm originating in DXB? Very puzzling.

Im not sure if the ORD is a 773 route, anyone confirm ?

As far as i was aware LAX is 2x744 and 1x773

Confused about aa.com, do you specifically need this to be on a AA flight number ?

Sorry, I edited my comment so now your response seems misaligned. I changed my comment to reflect that the originating flight from DXB doesn't line up with non-stop to SFO well.

Are you sure?

aa.com will sell me
01:55-06:20 AA6416
11:30-14:20 AA6188

Do you have lounge access ? if so surely that might be your best bet ? and would avoid an extra connection in the US ?

Both of these are operated by BA and on 744s

Thanks for looking into this. However, I didn't want to take this flight because it was at 01:55. I'd like to get some sleep and take the later flight.

Unless you can get on the appropriate 777-300 flight to LAX, I would simply take whichever is most convenient for you, there is little difference in the experience in Y otherwise, not enough to make it worthwhile anyway.

Mrs rxfleming did the DXB-LHR-SFO flight a few weeks ago (1.55am departure DXB to 11.30am connection LHR) and she is a lowly blue. Y all the way. No lounge.

Man up.

You're just going to end up more tired with daytime flights and +1 more connection than you need to fly.

There is no way I'd take a 1:55AM departure, either.

As others have said, the 777-300 is a nicer and more modern cabin in world traveller than the rickety old 747s.

Actually, it's a 2:55AM departure in November when I will be taking this flight.

I'm going to stick with the 10:05AM departure from DXB.

How do I know what 777 BA297 LHR-ORD on 11/26 will be using? Will it have the more modern cabin?

[I don't think there's such a thing as a 777 from LHR-LAX]

Which Y is better: 777 or 747 (LHR-ORD vs LHR-LAX)

LHR-LAX is 3 daily, 2x755 and 1x773
Unless that's changed ?

FWIW, I flew on BA297 2 years ago and it was a nice new shiny 777.
