Not sure if it is on all Lon flights either - certainly wasn't when I did it last autumn - outbound on the A340 was great but return on an A321 was very similar to all other European business class.

You can endlessly debate whether it is worht doing J for a 3-4 hour flight, but I do think it is a poor use of miles. I do this journey with BA, TK and sometime the orange horror. I recently did a one way Y using part miles, part cash. Cost 5k miles and about Ł50 which I was very happy with. TK are pretty expensive at the moment and crazy for one way fares so part cash might be a good option for you.

I flew LHR-IST last week on the 07:10 service (767) and back on Monday 19:35 (A320).
For shuch a short flight (I am used to LHR-DFW, LHR-LAX, LHR-SYD etc) the difference in seat is minimal, and you still get refreshments down the back in ET which I found to be OK.
However the real benefit of CE to you might be the lounge access, assuming you dont already have it, in which case I'd conserve cash and spend the avios.
Personally I'd keep the Avios for a TATL WT+/CW MFU and buy a ET tkt for this route, but then I am currently BAEC Silver.
