There are some interesting Super Tuscan style blends in quite a few of the Austrian wine regions, blending Blaufrankisch with Zweigelt and Cab, Merlot and Syrah. Fairly inexpensive still too, although prices are increasing.
I recently had - though not on BA - a wonderful Austrian white called "Pfaffl Wien 1" (a Riesling). They also make a red (though I can't remember the grape) called "Pfaffl Wien 2".

Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion 2005 is a bit of a step down from recent offerings. Hopefully it will be all gone by the time I fly next weekend to DXB!

Volnay in CCR

Hi,

Anyone know the details of the Volnay 1er cru at LHR's CCR? I had a glass last week and it was brill. Unfortunately have completely forgotten the producer and year.

Many thanks,

JAO

I live near Volnay and can tell you that any 1er cru from there will be brill. And every year since 2007 has been excellent.

It might be this one, but I can't guarantee it:

Volnay-Santenots 1er Cru 2008, Pierre Andre

Does that ring any bells?

I like anything by Elk Cove - that's a very good Pinot Noir, but it's too bad they're not serving Elk Cove's excellent Pinot Gris.

2012 BA Champagne & Wine thread

Last year in First to LAS I had a really nice sparkling English rosé. Anyone remember what it was - a friend of mine would like it for a party.

Thanks.

If it is the same one I'm thinking, it is now being served in the CCR. I'll look tomorrow and post back.

I'm pretty sure that it could only have been the Balfour Brut Rosé (subject of a rambling thread last year with one or two useful posts including this one).

Thanks. I'll get a bottle and see.

I'd be interested to hear what's in the CCR too - again thank you

That sounds right. I did have a small one last week, it's quite nice but the name escaped me. I'll double-check tomorrow.

Yes, I believe that was what was available in T5 GF last week as well. However I passed on that in favor of the Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle. A few days later the T3 GF was offering the LPGS as well as a Bollinger brut rose. This time I tried both and not surprisingly much preferred the LP (and not just because it's twice the price) .

According to my wine merchant Nyetimber is cheaper this year because it's not as good as previous years. The latest Chapel Down fizz is excellent.

I like to support English wine making where its possible - I would choose English sparkling over NV Champagne.
