London to NY in J - LCY or LHR?

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been covered before but I couldn't find anything on search.

Which in people's opinions and experience would be better in business?

1) LCY-JFK
2) LHR-JFK (747)
3) LHR-EWR (777)

I quite like the idea of the US customs clearance in Shannon for the LCY flight.

Thanks,

You're right - this has been covered loads of times before!

Over the months the general consensus seems to be that the UD of a 747 is a close run thing with the LCY service.

Horses for courses - if you prefer the lounge go to LHR but if you want to be guaranteed to walk out of JFK in minutes rather than anything upto 90 minutes go for the LCY service.

If it were me I'd probably go for LCY, albeit I miss the lounge at LHR when flying out. Worth noting that you get F Avios/TPs with the LCY service.

Also depends where in London (or UK) you live. If it's west of London then it hardly seems worth the trek across town. But there is the novelty factor of the LCY experience for some.

LCY every time for me. Gate Lounge is more than adequate, extra lovely Cabin Crew, quiet small cabin, straight out at JFK into a cab. F tier points etc

LCY LCY LCY gets my vote....
New Aircraft.
Very, very good crew and catering.
Quiet.
The whole feel is one of exclusiveness and far from crowds.
No Q at Immigration at either end.....
Downside? Possibility of diversion if weather really poor.

LHR?
As a silver travelling CW the LHR club lounge is only ok and usually very busy..
Q up with the other 300 or so passengers (well, join the fast track line and then meet every body on the jetway)
Q for ages to get thro' immigration at LHR and NYC?
Variable crew that can be superb, or feel hard-done by and just do the minimum, even in Premium cabins?
Travel on a plane that could be over 20 years old?

The only plus point for me about a LHR flight is the chance of an operational upgrade, or the offer of a POU to FIRST which would then tip the balance to LHR.

Try LCY, and let's hope that BA expand this superb service. DXB would be good!

More importantly, if you are paying cash, its 210TP (first class TPs) from LCY to JFK compared with LHR flights which give 140 TPs.

One return trip via LCY get you 420 TPs, which is 2/3rds required for BA Silver.

Shannon immigration is a breeze.

If possible I'd personally go for LHR-JFK outbound; to use the lounges and facilities at LHR and then JFK-LCY homeward.

This way you get to avoid the SNN stop on the way home and still try both services. You'll manage to scoop some F tier points on the BabyBus on the way home too.

Personally I would go the other way round (although my first choice is LCY return) as the stop in SNN means I don't have to deal with the immigration torture in JFK

The LCY-JFK flight is a very quiet and relaxing experience. Damn near as good as F. That said, I you like the large lounge(s), go for for LHR. I flew the LCY-JFK for the first time last summer and loved it. Looking forward to the next time . . .

I went out from LCY after Christmas and came back after New Year to LHR.

I agree that LCY is better - except my eviction from my seat to accommodate Tracey Emin having two.

- Fast US Immigration
- Even on a (nearly) full flight, the staff were great
- Quickly out of terminal at JFK - about 8 minutes to the Skytrain.

The way back to LHR was on a full 744, getting in to T5 just after several other flights, being pressed to squeeze up tight on the T5B shuttle, and the general mess that is LHR at peak times.

Later this month - in conjunction with OneWorldMegaDo - I am flying from LCY again, and back to LCY this time. It will be interesting to see the difference.

LCY-JFK is good especially for BA1 since it is not suitable for most business pax (its really to get the plane positioned for the JFK-LCY return flight) and many US business travellers with limited immigration queues do not really benefit using Shannon

Chances are slightly lower on BA3.

JFK-LCY is usually busy with few cheap discounted seats.
