OT - Solo holiday suggestion

If I may indulge the board momentarily.

I am starting a new job in April and want to have a week somewhere hot in mid-March before I start. G/f can't get time off then, so I would be going on my own.

Have not done a solo holiday outside of Las Vegas, so am looking for some ideas. Mainly want to sit on a beach, do some swimming/reading, but would be up for eating out in the evening rather than being Billy no-mates in a secluded hotel restaurant at night.

Dubai is one option I suppose. Any others welcomed! Would need to be long haul I guess as the Med would not be hot enough then.

You might get away with Canary Islands..... or Agadir / Essouria..... but my choice, providing there is no sabre rattling in the straits, would be Oman..... Interesting, amusing people, quality, and no hassle... or Abu Dhabi.
I enjoyed Dubai 20 years ago but it is over-blown for me now..... tho' I have never been ill, which is a bonus....
I suppose Florida keys would be an option.......

Have you thought about Thailand great sites to see even by yourself. Plus plenty of 'students' passing through to have fun with, I mean be friendly not anything else.

I dont know if you are a Grand prix fan. But they start in march, with melbourne and Kuala Lumpur.

How about a cruise around the Caribbean, plenty of "me' time to read and sunbath along with plenty of people to dine with at night and have a few drinks in the bar ..... always plenty of action in the casino after dark

I've been to Phuket a few times, but not sure about going on my own.

Ahh - that sounds interesting - I've heard some good things about Oman. Any hotel suggestions for a solo trip?

Try Chiang Mai - much more relaxed and some interesting excursions to be had from there which you can do yourself with the help of a hotel concierge.

Not a beach area of course...

Doesn't that risk clashing with "Spring Break" in which case I would avoid Cancun at all costs?

As for ideas, what about South America? Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires?

Hi,

I went to Oman a couple of years ago and stayed at the Grand Hyatt ( very nice hotel near the diplomatic area on the beach ( beach itself was ok)

Hated Rio (but loved SP - although not great for beaches).

thanks TBS. Are there restaurants around or did you mainly eat in the hotel?

Erm, I think spring break was actually the reason Cancun was suggested

Well, if being on holiday with hoardes of loud, drunk American college students isn't your idea of hell then go for it!

San Diego? Weather should be good, lots to see and do and apparently a great place. Definitely on my list of places to go!

er...no thanks! Just checked and it seems my trip will fall at the Spring Break time....so that's Florida off the list also!

Am leaning towards either Oman or one of the Thai islands at the moment.
