At 120 pages and nearly 1800 posts, I wonder if it is time to have the "spring clean" as recently performed by the mods with the other long threads.

I seem to recall that the "cross check" instruction is only given in the "to automatic" direction. In the "to manual" direction, as no major direct safety issue is involved then no cross check required.

Am I correct?

I'm sure I have many times heard the phrase "doors to manual and cross check".

As soon as someone from the profession answers we therefore will know whether I have good memory or whether I am getting senile.

One of us is probably senile, 50/50 chance of it being me or you.

The instructions to put the doors to manual is given by the pilots and it shoud include 'cabin crew place the doors to manual and crosscheck'.

It is important for the doors to be disarmed because deploying a slide is a very expensive thing to do, as it takes a long time to repack and replace a slide. It also is dangerous for the ground staff outside the aircraft.

We only open a door in BA if steps or some form of jetty is in place as this is a secondary safeguard as the slide will not inflate unless it drops below the door level, but even so re-packing one would cause a massive delay and cost to BA.

Or maybe just close the 2012 thread and open a 2013 thread same topic?
Mods, anyone?

Yes that is what I was meaning, it is starting to get a bit difficult to find some topics now and I think I read that one of the mods stating that really long threads can cause problems.

As the OP I am very happy to start a new thread each year. I'm not sure what it would achieve, but if that is what members would like I am of course your humble servant

1808 Posts, 120 pages, 178585 views and hardly a cross or aggressive word in the whole thread. On behalf of all us passengers and plane geeks could I extend a huge thank you to all our staff contributors. You contributions right across the forum are hugely appreciated ^

Could we continue here:

I will ask for this to be locked.

And in my best Brucie voice, "keeeeep asking"!
