Some information on the link you supplied:

From 08 March 2012, Hong Kong Airlines will launch an all Club Class service, daily non-stop between London Gatwick and Hong Kong International Airport.
From the times you quoted it looks like the aircraft is going to sit at Gatters for the best part of the day !

The fact that 3 A330s are being rostered for the route plus the long time spent at LGW ought to be good for reliability.

That's a long time for the plane to be sitting in LGW, which is a shame. If it were allowed, and if there were demand, by my reckoning it could probably manage a trip as far as DME/SVO/CAI/TLV, for example:
LGW-DME 07:00 - 15:00
DME-LGW 16:30 - 16:50
and still have plenty of slack.

Bringing it slightly back on topic, what are the BA flights that spend a long time on the ground at outstations and what could those planes do in the meantime if laws and passenger demand allowed?

Off the top of my head, at least CPT, JNB and SYD.

olympic filghts, I'd call it.

Air China will start a LGW service with 332 as well...

For an all business service, Gatwick sounds like a disaster (unless pricing is much lower than BA/CX/VS)

Is the runway at LGW long enough for an A330-200 to get all the way to HKG?

(I suppose it's not going to be fully loaded as it'll have an all-J config...but LGW-HKG must be right on the limit of an A332s range).

I don't think there will be an issue - the 332 is a very versatile aircraft. Just off the top of my head, US flies it PHL-TLV and DL flies it SLC-NRT.

It's long enough for a fully laden hi-Y VS747....I think it'll be fine!!!

it's the worlds busiest single use runway after all.....
