You can go throught the choose a seat process and compare the seat layout.
somewhere like seatguru, will show you the different configurations.
Of course aircraft can and do change betwenn booking and take-off, but should give you an idea

Yes, but how can you tell if it's a 77W?
I saw someone on here comment that their HKG flight had switched between the two but they didn't say where they found this out.

A dummy booking on Expedia.com (not .co.uk) will tell you the aircraft type and you can even preview the seat map to confirm the layout. A very useful tool.

Use www.thebasource.com for seatmap - SeatGuru is well out of date.

I might be being a bit of an idiot, but that never works for me. Always says that the seat maps are not available at this time or somesuch. Am I doing something wrong (am using .com, not .co.uk, so it isn't that)? I do the dummy booking and then hit seat preview.

I've noticed this can be a bit flaky so you may or may not get the map to display. Note with a UK IP address it will try to force you back to the UK site, so you then have to click on the warning at the very top to get .com

Just checked. Scheduled to be a 77W so new WTP for you, OP, unless there's an aircraft change at the last minute.
The flight is J5 C0 D0 R0 I0, 2 and a half months out. Wow. BA must be doing well on that route!!

To the OP - 27/28 are always a new 777-300ER unless there is one out of rotation for maintenance or some such.
