Question about redeeming for AA first class seat
Quick question for you BAEC experts. When using BA miles for domestic USA flights on American Airlines, I know that online booking requires 3x miles for first class seats on 2-class cabins. I read an older post which said that if you make reservation by phone (and pay the service fee), you can get these seats On 2-class aircraft for 2x miles over coach. Fact or fiction?
I'm specifically interested in flights from midwest USA to Honolulu in first class.

IIRC, two class domestic flights will be treated as economy and business class (regardless of silly North American 'first class' branding). So yes, 2x for AA Domestic First Class on two cabin aircraft.

Nope.
If you're booking a wholly domestic award on AA metal, you'll pay 3X for First Class, regardless of how you book. It would be different if you were booking an international award that had a domestic segment.

At the risk of asking the obvious and to confirm for the benefit of others, an international business award with a domestic segment will book into First rather than Coach right?
So for example EZE-MIA-LAX will be 40,000 in Business one way.

As AA dropped First class service out of Canada and they have only business and economy all flights between CANADA and USA, BA are charging 2X for business travel even though the passenger still sit in the first class compartment.

IIRC this had to be done by telephone. Booking online the AA domestic leg booked into Y. Perhaps someone with recent experience can comment.

Yes, but only because the international segment (EZE-MIA) is longer than the domestic segment (MIA-LAX). Of course, if you were flying on an AA flight from MIA to LAX that offered three-class service, you would be seated in J, not F.
If, instead of booking EZE-MIA-LAX, you booked a J award SJO-MIA-LAX, the MIA-LAX segment would be in Y -- not F -- on a two-cabin flight, because SJO-MIA is shorter than MIA-LAX. But if you booked SJO-DFW-LAX, then the domestic segment would be in F, because SJO-DFW is longer than DFW-LAX.
